I enjoyed the sounds of the tropics and being able to walk to the beach, but it was a strangely isolated experience. Any restaurants were more than two miles away. To go involved walking through an industrial area, so to just get breakfast involved a taxi ride. There was also nowhere that felt comfortable to sit outside which meant unless you wanted to go to a bar, the only thing to do at night was stay inside.

Pros: Walkable to a park which was nice. Clean room (very small) and private bathroom. A/C and TV. Cons: EXTREMELY thin walls. We could hear people in rooms next door talking in normal voices as well as TV at normal volume. The structure of the unit we were in was almost like a mobile home which caused the floors to shake when people walked in their room next door. I suspect they could hear us as well! A continental breakfast was advertised provided in a FILTHY shared kitchen that consisted of a partial loaf of bread, a few eggs and half empty containers of butter and jelly. No thank you. But more than that we were charged an extra free for “enhanced” cleaning which apparently didn’t include the kitchen. Glad we only booked for one night.

Alan was great and the free fruit from the trees on the property were delicious! The bungalow was spacious and the wrap-around porch perfect for sitting and sipping our morning coffee. The only downfalls were the super flat pillows and the cockroaches (there were just a few but one really is too much for me). I do understand it’s a tropical island though and things like that are INCREDIBLY hard to control. Truly, it was well worth the money and I absolutely will recommend Aaron’s Cottages to EVERYONE I know that is looking for accommodations on the Hilo side of the Big Island!

Great place to land after a long flight. It’s close to airport, clean and comfortable. Really enjoyed my morning walk and swim at Okehakana beach right around the corner

The staff is rude the place is a mess they kept trying to harass me for thirty more dollars and they demaded more money because my bf and son came at 4 am and stayed till 9am the same day and they expected more money and the second night was only me and my two year old because the staff was so demanding and rude. Never again am i ever going back and no they got no money from me because this place was just a bad bad bad experiance i would have rather stayed at a different cheap hotel then them never again

Hilo’s Trip

We arrived around 10pm on Christmas Eve and greeted by Alan, he’s really nice and give us a a lots of information about the Cottage and the weather. Our room on general is really good, we have our own refrigerator which is that helps to store our drinks and fruits that we bought. Aaron Cottage has an open kitchen that we can use, unfortunately we didn’t get to use it during our stay due to our busy schedule. The beach is only 5 minutes walk from Aaron Cottage - we will definitely come back to Hilo and will stay here again. Thank you Alan for your hospitality!
