Property promotes having a swim up bar, which is not exactly accurate. There is access to the bar from the hot tub which is only usable at night as it has no cover from the sun. The property has a peaceful area with hammocks and waterfalls, however it is located next to SR.Frogs with heavy Pounding Bass, Whistles, Screaming DJ. The property is also next to the Cruise Ship Terminal, resulting in no views of the ocean only ships. This Terminal also acts as a barricade to the open ocean, resulting in limited to no peaceful sounds of waves at any time. After the clubs shut down, no sleep could be enjoyed due to the very very loud grinding sound of the air conditioner. My family planned to spend an hour at the pool before checking out, unfortunately given the issues with their key system I spent 30 minutes going down to the front desk and up to a locked door. Three up and down attempts before gaining access to my room. It would have been slightly quicker experience had both elevators worked or if the elevator had more than a two person max capacity. The bar staff moved quick to sever, unfortunately their billing procedure was hectic. All food & bar bills required approval from one person, major inconvenient delays to pay. Had I not booked and pre paid with Expedia, I would have not followed through with our check in as I started having a bad feeling about the property after I spent 30 mins filling out multiple paper work with duplicate information. This is Fail Resort.

Room for improvement

The Hotel needs updating, it only has 2 elevators. The elevator has a capacity of 3 people. One elevator was broken for the majority of our stay. The food is mediocre. We didn’t realize the hotel was located next to margaritaville, it was very loud due to music blasting all day long. We also had an obstructed view due to 1-5 cruise ships docked there every day. The hotel itself had loud music playing almost all the time along with hosting 2 weddings till midnight. We were there to dive, the boat captain and dive master were excellent. The boat was in need of help (apparently the hotel’s responsibility). Several brackets that hold the tanks on the boat were broken. Unfortunately on our first dive one of the tanks fell on our friends foot and broke her toe. The diving is great but the hotel has lots of room for improvement.

We had an absolutely amazing stay, the staff we by far the most hospitable and kind i have ever delt with. We cam for our 10th anniversary which is on Valentines day as well as my wifes birthday! They had an amazing floral areangement made for her and i asked them to make a cake on her birthday as a surprize. When we got back to our room was a beautiful cake as well as champagne, when i tried to oay they wouldn't let me said it was complimentary. Absolutely amazing we will be returning with the whole family.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was excellent. We loved the view and proximity to the water. Great sunset views and very quiet after the cruise ships left.

We were displaced by the property to the grand park royal across the street which was not bad except we had to loose an entire day to check out and check in with our bags hostage. We were lied to and it took me three days to get the cab fare back - which was seven dollars to go across the street with our luggage.

Very Nice Hotel With Good Snorkeling Beach

This is a well-run, comfortable 4* resort. It deserves 5* in the 4* hotel category. Good food, good snorkeling off its beach (as good if not better than elsewhere on the island). We would definitely stay here again.

Be aware and avoid

This hotel will nickel and dime you for everything. They charge for WiFi which is the first warning flag. Haven't stayed at a hotel in 5+ years that does that. Breakfast was included in my reservation and they still charged me for it. They charge for bottled water and don't bring any to your room. Though the hotel was empty and I had an oceanfront reservation, my room was horribly located. It was apparent that they put all the guests in one area, that were on very low levels with bad views. Lastly, the hotel is right next to the cruise ship port and you will hear the noise from them and have your view constantly blocked. I will never stay at an El Cid again. The one and only good point is that the concierge Jennie is amazing at her job!

The location of this hotel is great (awesome beach front amenities) but the condition of the hotel is marginal. One of the two elevators quite working completely (trapped 2 people inside) and the second elevator was questionable (door kept jamming), which was a bit un-nerving. Perhaps plan on getting your steps going up and down the stairs ! This is not a modern resort but the location on the beach is pretty cool and the snorkeling is fabulous. You might wake up to cruise ships docked right outside your window !
