The hotel had a convenient location to the subway. But for itms price, it has to be better run and have higher level of comfort compared to the second hotel we stayed, at the SSAW Shanghai; in the same area. Staff were not incredibly friendly at the front desk. Overall it was not a relaxed stay.

Spent 10 nights there in May while visiting our daughter who lives in Shanghai. Great location, walking distance to Yuyuan garden area with lots of shopping and street food.Buffet breakfast was adequate.Staff was helpfull with directions and able to write addresses for us to give to cab drivers . Would definetely stay there again.

This hotel is a good value. They do speak English here. It's situated on a busy street so it can get noisy. It's very close to Yu Yuan garden but a bit of a walk to the Bund. Hotel seems to have two addresses. We were pleased that the front desk acknowledged our reservation with out hesitation. Fellow travellers had difficulties in obtaining second room key. Hotel breakfast is okay, but priced too high.

I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights in March, 2011. Facilities of the hotel are basically OK,with some exceptions! In my room, I had problems with almost all the faucets in the bathroom! I just finished a 2 week tour of China so I wanted to just relax in Shanghai and visit some friends. Checking in and then going to my room I felt I was in a lavishly luxurious hotel although I was well aware it was just a 4* hotel. The internet was free as compared to a pricier hotel I was staying at in Beijing. It was cold and snowing in Shanghai and there was heat in the room that was somewhat adjustable. I rather be too warm than too cold. Step outside and the Yun Garden tourist area were within close walking distance. I prefered the local residential scene as it was much more interesting. This hotel is very conviently located, walking distance from Yuyuan Gardens, which are very nice, close to the metro station as well as other attractions. The hotel needs some renovations but it is kept in pretty good conditions. The breakfast buffet was very nice, including western style breakfast, however with the dinner be careful what you eat!

We have a great experience with Hotel Hun's Paradise. We checked in a bit early than the check-in time. Upon check in, we were upgraded to a better room without asking. My friend had left several messages at the front desk and they made sure the messages are conveyed to me at the time of check-in. It's about a 10-minute brisk walk along an occasionally very narrow sidewalk that frequently includes electric motorbikes, so that wasn't too pleasant. But the metro stop is on the two major lines, 8 and 10. The surrounding neighborhood was largely residential, but had a very small mall with only Chinese and Korean restaurants, so we bought quite a few crackers and other essentials at its supermarket for sustenance. But we did belatedly find a tiny hole-in-the-wall cafe nearby run by a lovely Chinese couple who speak next to no English but make a mean supreme pizza. I'd recommend them - it looks a little dingy, but the food is fresh and good. Breakfast at the hotel was a decent mix of Western and Chinese options. We never went hungry, but sometimes we ate more pastries than others. Overall, I think I'd like to find a hotel with a more central location, but the hotel itself was a lovely experience. There was no problem with the location of the hotel and the standard of the room. However the dining room was another experience. It was a challenge to find a cup that was not chipped at breakfast. They ran out of preserves for the toast so there was nothing to put on your toast at breakfast.
