Room was very clean and the location was convenient to South Lake activities. Would definitely stay there again.
"Good for a couple"
Small room, but who wants to spend time walking around a hotel room. Thin ceiling, kept me up a bit with late showers and walking around upstairs. Otherwise great for the price.
"Very friendly service"
Great experience; this is clearly an older (and probably dumpy) motel that has been renovated, but it is in pretty good shape now, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for those who don't fuss about staying in smaller, less fancy hotels. Also easy walking distance to Heavenly Gondola and Casinos.

"Great Stay!"
Jeff was really nice, as he checked us in. We had a great room that was very clean, updated and comfortable. Everything worked in the room, electrical and water good, no problems with any noisey neighbors or parking. I would recommend and stay again. Can't wait for the next visit.
"Nice place for the $"
Got a great deal for a night. Room was very clean better than other cheapy motels. In my room the heater wasn't working and the internet was down. The manager brought in an electric heater and had to go into lobby for internet. Overall a good deal for cheap night's stay.

We usually stay at North Shore, but my daughter and I decided to stay at the Highland Inn during a quick weekend getaway at the northshore. We really enjoyed the bang for the buck that this place delivers. Sure, the rooms are small - but we spend most of our time out of the hotel room, so it's not a major drawback. All the rooms have been renovated […] with a modern "Ikea like" design, and have new, clean fixtures and showers. I liked that there was plenty of hot water. Also, the big, flat screen tv was a plus. Major downer: the wi fi was spotty - the signal doesn't reach to the back of the motel (due to the brick walls, the receptionist claimed). "Highland Inn Lake Tahoe - great room and location!"
I came up to the Highland Inn for the weekend to go boarding and go to the casinos/bars. We got up there pretty early around 1pm and since our room was ready the nice guy working the counter let us check in early, a huge convenience with all our stuff piled in the car. The room was great, nice hardwood floors and modern decor. Plus it was walking distance […] to the restaurants (Fire and Ice before 3pm, check it out), Heavenly, casinos, and shopping center so you you can avoid wasting money on cabs. Very nice, clean and updated. Pleasantly surprised how nice for the price. Definitely pride in ownership in this hotel.

We were pleasantly surprised by the room and its excellent location. Our original thought was to stay at one of the pricier hotels nearby but thought we would chance this place as it was half the cost. We will definitely stay here again based on the room quality, location to casinos, heavenly and the strip.....

Funky, clean modern rooms, right in the middle of the action in South Lake Tahoe. The Highland Inn represents one of the best values anywhere on the lake. Some of the nicest towels and bath products I've found, even in hotels costing three times as much.

This is a nice place--not without issues, but a good dead. Some of the reviews here must be old, because the rooms are modern, and kind of playful with Ikea furnishings. Also some of the comments about the desk staff are wrong and rude--I'll just leave it at that. It's a bit loud as the walkways are woodframed. Rooms are a bit dark (no wall of glass […] like in many hotels). Good TV, comfy bed, clean, allows pets. Hardwood floors ensure pet cleanliness as opposed to carpets. "A Good Value..."
With the bamboo hardwood floor, a flat screen TV, and new tile in the bath room, the room and bath room looked modern, neat and clean. The shower was a bit small. Although we could hear the traffic on Lake Tahoe Blvd. at night, the price is still very good for the location, it's about 5 min. to Heavenly ski resort.

We loved the modern design/decor of our room. The large flat-screen TV was an added bonus. The shower was outfitted with a nice high-pressure nozzle, and the bathroom tile and wood floors were a nice touch. The bed was very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay!!

The guy at the reception desk upon arrival was super friendly and helpful. Told us where to go for some good hiking that was off-leash for our dog. The guy that was there the rest of the time was weird and seemed almost drunk. The lighting in the room was awful. They need some higher voltage bulbs or something. Also, we had to get a blow dryer from […] the front desk and were told to turn everything off accept the one light we needed or we'd blow a fuse. Really? The spa was broken which was disappointing, the internet never worked and they didn't have movie channels...just basic cable. The walls are super thin and we could hear everything which was annoying with the party folks two rooms down. Hmmm...maybe this hotel was not that great??? "Inn in need of some updated management"
Location is great, 4 min walk to Heavenly gondola, across street from village, 10 min walk to Casinos. The stay however, left a lot to be desired. We booked the largest 3 BR room for 7 people for a week of snowboarding. Checked in with a guy named Jeff sleeping in the back room, seemed like he was on some kind of downer meds or something, just slurring […] his speech pretty bad. Went up stairs, the room was decent but the finish was a bit shoddy. It was obviously an amateur renovation to change that suite into the 3BR listed. Odd things - wifi and internet was down all weekend. TV did not work (no cable reception). Room was not cleaned from day to day. The Highland Inn was perfect for my needs. ONe night to meet up with my kids. It was very reasonable and clean and newer interiors. Very nicely decorated. The only thing missing was a coffee maker. That is something I desire in a hotel room so I can have my coffee in my Jammies. There is a starbucks across the street.....but it would have been nice […] to have it in the room. Good Inn with good value for money and reasonably good service and all the features. Very nice location and can be recommended if u are looking for a good hotel with reasonably good ROI and stay in good surroundings.

Our deadbolt didn't work and they switched rooms for us no problem. Our only complaint was the lighting was really dark.

If you're looking for an inexpensive place to spend the night, this is a deal. It was a very clean place within walking distance to entertainment. Its not as fancy as the "big boys", but for the price, you can't beat it.

No facilities. Very impersonal. Free wifi only in the reception area. The room was clean and efficient but no luggage rack or cupboards. Weekend staff seemed to be hard of hearing or had poor English, or both. No personality.

"Comfortable, safe, clean, good value"
We stayed one night, the management were helpful, the room was very clean, this was a bargain. We would definitely go back. Not high end, but just what we needed.

Booked a late summer stay here based on the reviews I read - and I agree. Room/hotel is basic, but clean and comfortable... and so convenient to all the boating, biking and hiking we did during the day - and then just a short walk to the casinos and restaurants at night!
The only amenity was an iron and ironing board, the bed was very hard.

For the category it is in (less expensive), it was a pleasant stay; the manager was less than helpful, however, and there were no passes for the beach, as other hotels offer, but the room was very clean. No amenities, such as coffee pot, but for the price, I would recommend it.

We found the Highland Inn to have surprisingly stylish and nice rooms. Clean and conveniently located, close to Heavenly village with a numerous restaurants and stores. Nothing super fancy, but a good deal for the money.

We left Turlock, CA at 5:00am and drove to Yosemite. After hiking up and down the Mist trail we headed to S. Lake Tahoe. We arrived at the Highland Inn at around 6:30pm. We booked the Highland because of the good reviews. We were not let down. Great value for the price. Clean room, refrigerator (unexpected), and a nice bathroom. We ordered take out […] from Applebee's (next door) and ate in our room (yeah...the room was that nice). The next morning we just had to walk across the street to Starbuck for coffee. "Good Value"
Clean place. Very nice for a cheap motel. My biggest complaint was that the wireless internet doesn't make it into the rooms. You gotta go to the lobby to use the internet. Really annoying, but good value overall.

Convenient location, close to shopping and restaurants. Terrible shower set up...charged for an extra night; bedding coverlet not clean, AC not great. Could hear other guests alarm clock at not a desirable hour and went off for 1 half hour or more for two mornings. Convenient free parking.

The hotel is fine - clean enough, comfortable. Don't expect The Ritz. My main gripe is the fact that the hotel does not have in-room internet capabilities. I had to be on the internet for a couple of consecutive hours one day and the one in the hotel lobby was in use because there is no service. I was told by the worker there that some rooms are surrounded […] by concrete and it is impossible for them to get service. I asked if it was possible for them to get access to another hotel's internet, and had to call back several times to hear "no". Only complaint we have is the front desk. They could seriously use a professional desk clerk. The reservations were all messed up. They did make up for the problems we had. Other than that they were nice people and enjoyed our stay.

I traveled with my brother, my 3 month old and 4 year old. We were in Tahoe for 2 nights and basically just needed a place to sleep and shower, and this was perfect. The price was great, location was excellent! The rooms were modern. Only downfall was showers only, and my kid likes baths. I would stay here again.

This hotel was such a great surprise. It looks log cabin style outside, but inside it is very modern and homey. The bed was SO comfortable!
