"good point in Kyoto"Komentarz: Monika B - "Bialystok, Poland", dnia paź 25, 2011
Very nice and modern hotel, placed in the southern part of Kyoto, very near to many temples, like famous Fushimi Inari & Kyiomizu or Gion shopping district.Good metro connection from the nearby Fukakusa station.Concenience store just across the street and many restaurants just along the street. Great hotel for all kind of tourists.
"Hotel Monterey, Recommended"
We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights and were satisfied with everything; excellent location, helpful staff and nice room, reasonable price
"Good hotel"
The hotel is very clean and in good condition. The room has everything you need. The location is very close to the subway but a bit far away from the bus stop. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others.
"Convenient"
Nice, though small, rooms. Air Conditioning was a bit quirky. Hotel staff is very attentive. The location is as good as it gets. I've stayed here twice now and would definitely stay again. Price, through Hotels.com, is very competitive.
"The Monterey hotel in Kyoto"
This is the best hotel that we found from our trip to Japan so far.The location of the hotel is very convenient as it is very close to the subway and the bus stop is just a few minutes away. The bedroom is pretty big and cleaned and the staff are very helpful and yes they speak English too. Overall it is a very good hotel and we recommend that to anyone […] who wants to visit Kyoto. "Almost perfect..."
This is a luxurious hotel with nicely decorated restaurants and lobby and very confortable rooms. The facilities were excellent and exceptionally clean. There was LAN connection in the rooms and a computer terminal with internet connection in the lobby (coin-operated). I would give this hotel full marks if it weren't for the fact that on my first night […] there was a strong smell of cigarettes in the room (even though it was supposed to be non-smoking). Also, I unfortunately woke up every morning with a few more insect bites in my body which were painful and made my holiday somewhat uncomfortable... Not sure about the frequency of bed bugs and it was a shame as I otherwise loved my stay at this hotel. Przeczytaj więcej
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto: Perhaps Kyoto's Best?"
For the money and location, Hotel Monterey might just be the best buy in Kyoto. The hotel is located on one of Kyoto's major streets (convenient for taxi and bus), one block from a Metro Station (necessary to visit many of the landmarks and attractions in the immediate area) and a US$14.00 taxi ride to the Kyoto Station. Be sure and purchase an All-Day […] Pass for Metro (and combined with bus if you plan to use both). Pass makes using the Metro easier, less expensive than multiple tickets in a single day. A major shopping street is only 4 blocks south, Imperial Palace grounds six blocks north, Post Office just 4 very short blocks to the east (for ATM, foreigners must use Post Office machine - opened 24-hours a day). Numerous shops and restaurants in the east-side neighborhood stretching about 1/4th of a mile on the east side of the street. Room size was convenient for single occupant. Plenty of storage space; pajamas available; huge bathroom tub for hot-water soaking after a long day of sightseeing! Very quiet and complimentary International Herald Tribune every morning. Draw backs: staff with limited English language ability; food in the hotel is expensive! Breakfast buffet during my visit: US$35.00. Several coffee shops, including a huge Starbucks, with sandwiches and pastries, near-by. Przeczytaj więcej
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto"
My first stop this time in japan and it was at a super awesome hotel, very nice design and installations, i liked the onsen on the top floor very much even it did cost extra but service there was great and facilities with different water types to, view of kyoto by night was breath taking, sadly it was only semi open and no real outdoor bath. The massage […] was also great and relaxing and price was okay. The beds were super fluffy , the hotel room was big enough and all the facilities did work like they should. The stress of the long travel did wear off there very fast, the location was a bit far from the JR railstation i had to take a taxi the first time to get there, after that i could explore the city a bit and find 2 good subway station around there (5 min by foot). I will try to stay again there as it was not really that expensive for the high qualiy service and facilities it had. :) Przeczytaj więcej
"Great Hotel w/ Perfect Location"
The hotel was extremely clean and the staff was lovely. Well located in Central Kyoto
Really enjoyed my stay. Small rooms but this is expected. Great bathroom. Great location. Close to subway. Concierge spoke minimal English.

"Hotel Monterey, Kyoto"
Excellent service. Clean rooms. Plenty of space compared to other Japanese Motels.
"Nice hotel, but a bit far from many of the sights"
The hotel is quite nice especially for the money. One would have expected to pay for a hotel of this quality. The rooms were very nice, comfortable, and clean, and the staff very friendly (and English-speaking) and eager to please. The decor and styling is a bit, well... odd, but its impeccably clean. My one quip would be that its a bit of a walk (30+ […] minutes) to the Eastern part of the city (where most of the sights, temples, etc. are). If you don't mind walking a few miles or taking the bus/subway, the place is a good value. Przeczytaj więcej

"Ok hotel"
I am giving it a 3 stars because the hotel is in serious need of cleaning up their carpets and linens. I felt that it was more on the dirty side. I usually dont make comments like this bc i never really care about it being totally spotless since i understand with age there will be some dirt here and there but it was just too much and i felt like i couldnt […] walk around the room barefoot. If they shampoo the carpets and linens and get softer pillows then i would def recommend this place bc the people and location are good. I personally should have stayed closer to kyoto station as most of my plans revolved around it. This hotel IS walking distance to nishiki and gion though so thats the good part. I am from NY so im used to walking so if you are used to driving everywhere a 10 min walk might seem like too much just a fair warning. The local trains are fine. i didnt get to use the bus but i heard that is the best way to travel around. overall this hotel is ok if you want to stay in this location. i would probably stay elsewhere next time. "I Love this hotel!"
They say never judge a book by its cover, but this hotel is an exception to the rule. Its looks fantastics, fit for a king and it is so comfortable. The decor has inspired my own house decor and the spa area especially the rock bed is wonderful! I booked for 2 nights and extended my stay. I haven't eaten in any tof the restaurants as I think they are […] overpriced but there are plenty of cafe, reataurants and convenience stores nearby it isn't a proble. For a comfortable stay in a convenient location I would recommend this hotel. Przeczytaj więcej
"very nice accomodations"
Hotel Monterey was a pleasure to stay in. The place is immaculate. Very nicely decorated and very quiet and convenient. We stayed there two nights and we very much enjoyed it. The staff is amazing. They went above and beyond. I would definitely stay there again.
"Super hotel in a super location!"
This was my second time at Hotel Monterey and I don't think my last! I love this hotel. The interior is great and oppulent looking. The room (standard double) is a good size for a single person and the bed is very comfortable. You can hire a PC per night or use the public PCs in the foyer. The restaurants are expensive but there is plenty of choice […] in the neighbourhood. Many shops, restaurants, cafes in walking distance. There is easy access to the train station and other sighteeing spots are a bus ride away. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you like to stay in a luxurious and very comfortable setting. There is also a spa area. I loved the rock bed sauna!! Przeczytaj więcej
"Excellent value - Hotel Monterey Kyoto"
Excellent hotel. Sizable twin room. Clean & comfortable. Staff were very helpful with travel & sightseeing tips. They had maps, restaurant info sheets, bus pass sales etc. Just abt 30m from Exit 6 of Karasuma Oike station. Many convenience stores and a Fresco 24-hr supermarket very nearby. Would highly recommend this hotel to all Kyoto visitors.
"The monterey Hotel in Kyoto,Japan."
Excellent hotel and very reasonable price!!!!!!!
"Fanatastic Hotel!!"
I loved everthing about this hotel. The interior was superb. On entering the hotel I was dazzled and very impressed. Many of the staff spoke English. "Close to main shopping street"
Beautiful room, beautiful hotel, boutique feel. Modern, new and very comfortable, luxurious. Near the main shopping street in Kyoto. Would improve on service attitude, good but snooty.
"Great Downtown Kyoto Hotel"
Stayed here with my wife for 4 nights during the festival of Gion Matsuri and had a blast. Streets in the entire downtown area were closed for the festival and the city was full of visitors. Hotel staff made reservations at nearby Japanese restaurants which were all excellent - great food, impeccable service, and decent prices. On our last night we […] ate at the hotel restaurant (the Japanese one) and had another great meal - beautiful food, decor, and service. Staff was always very helpful with all of our questions and requests. The hot baths (onsen spa) on the top floor were also fantastic, replete with wrap around lounge overlooking the action downtown. This hotel is centrally located near bus and subway routes that take you to all the major sites and temples of Kyoto. Very modern, very nice, and a very good deal. Przeczytaj więcej
"Highly recommended place to stay & easy access"
Excellent location and easy access to major places of attractions. Also, near 24hrs supermarket where you can get cheap food. Hotel was like a 4star for the price of 3. Surrounding and the chapel in the hotel was an excellent scene. Trust me and try it out.
"Very nice and convenient hotel"
This hotel was very nice as are all of the Monterey Group Hotels. Rooms are fairly small, which is standard in Japan. The best thing about this hotel was its convenience. It was close to a couple of major subway lines and bus routes, which made it very easy to navigate the city. It is also very close in walking distance to Gion for great shopping and […] restaurants. "Western Comfort in the Center of Town"
Kyoto is perfect for walking and to have a good affordable base of operation is a wonderful thing. Such is the case with the Hotel Monterey Kyoto. When you need to have operational access to the city, this is the place. "Good hotel, but no Wifi!"
The hotel is in a good location in Kyoto, very close to the 2 subway lines in Kyoto and close to the vibrant neighborhood of Gion. The staff are quite helpful. The major drawback though is that there is no Wifi connection ANYWHERE in the hotel!
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto - Great Boutique Hotel"
A number of people here have commented about the size of the rooms, but it's really not that bad. I guess it depends on your needs. We stayed in a Standard Double (the smallest), had 3 duffel bags / backpacks, and were perfectly fine with the space we had. If you're one to bring bigger or multiple pieces of luggage though, and like to spread out, then […] yes, like others, you may find space too tight. If space is not a big issue for you though, the rooms are really quite comfortable. The decor of the rooms and lobby/restaurant/cafe areas are modern boutique-y and upscale. The bed, linen, japanese bathtub, and other amenities in the room are also good. The location of the hotel is also convenient - closest to the Karasuma-Oike station, where you can access subway lines going north-south as well as east-west. The area around the hotel is lively, with cafes, convenience stores, and a bookstore close by. Hotels.com was running a sale on Hotel Monterey Kyoto, and we got a really good deal for the room (comparable to staying in some hostels) given the value we were getting. Definitely recommended unless you know you're the type to like a lot of space and spreading out. Przeczytaj więcej

We had a great stay at the Monterey up until the Australian Government issued the do-not-travel warning to all citizens travelling to Tokyo (post nuclear disaster), which was where we were headed after our stay in Kyoto at the Monterey and when we went downstairs to extend our stay at least a night we were told there was no vacancies, even though there […] were numerous vacancies online at hotels.com. "Hotel Monterey Kyoto"
Perfect location, just a block from the intersection of the two major subway lines. Easy walking distance to Gion, Heaian Jinja Shrine, NiJo Castle and some lesser known places. The hotel appears to be fairly new. The rooms are a little on the small side, but the service and upkeep are great. We would stay there again.

In all honesty it was much better than i expected. due to the mediocre reviews I was expecting worse. the rooms were small but very clean and the hotel was very new. The spa on the top floor was very nice. I would recommend this hotel to others.
"Great Hotel in Kyoto"
When we checked out, I told my adult daughter "I might come back to Kyoto just to stay in this hotel." The hotel and the staff were lovely. We arrived way before check-in time, and they kindly stored our humongous luggage pile while we went out and visited temples. When we returned, our luggage had already been placed in our room. A HINT: This hotel […] is about a block north of a north-south subway stop that you can get to easily from Kyoto Station, but If you are coming into Kyoto Station, and you are two people or more, DO NOT TAKE THE SUBWAY. The cost of a taxi from Kyoto Station to the hotel is only a couple of hundred yen more than the subway fare for two people, and taking the taxi is much less stressful (don't need to juggle luggage in the subway, and the taxi drops you at the hotel door). The hotel location is good to visit almost anything you want to visit in Kyoto, due to the convenience of the subway station, and the fact that it is not TOO far from Kyoto station, where you can get a bus to almost anywhere. The room was not the biggest that I have had in Japan, but it was completely adequate. Likewise, the bathroom. No complaints. It was quiet, clean, and elegant. The hotel staff really went out of their way to take care of us and make our stay pleasurable. There is a lounge on the first floor, called "The Library", where you can get drinks, and hot and cold sandwiches, and desserts, until 10 PM. Our first night, we ate the sandwiches and desserts there, because we came down for dinner after the restaurants had closed. It was just fine. The next night, my adult daughter liked the sandwiches in The Library so much that she went there again, and got a hot / cold sandwich combination for dinner. I went to the hotel restaurant Escale, and had the 6-course fixed price french dinner for 5,000 yen. I would say that this 6-course french meal was a $125 - $150 dinner in any major USA city. The portions were not huge, but it was made up for in the amazing quali Przeczytaj więcej

"Good location, clean but small rooms"
The location of this hotel is convenient to the 2 subway lines and a lot of the major buses taken by tourists. The hotel is clean overall and the staff is very polite and helpful. The rooms are very small, but clean. There are not safe boxes in the rooms but you can leave your valuables in the safe boxes at the front desk, which are secure. Laptop […] computers can fit into those sideways. My only advice if you want a non-smoking room is to request to be on a non-smoking floor. We were first escorted to a non-smoking room that was situated between two smoking rooms, and we could smell the odor very strongly. Although we could not be moved that same night, we were moved to a non-smoking floor the next night and it was fine. Przeczytaj więcej
"Hotel Monterey Kyoto"
We were very pleased with our choice of the Hotel Monterey Kyoto. We weren't sure if the location was easy to access from the train station or near places to eat, but it was. We arrived at the JR station at noon and called the hotel to see if we could check in early because we had reservations to tour the Imperial Palace. They told us the room wasn;t […] ready, but they could hold our bags and gave us great directions from the subway (Karasuma Oike station, exit 6, turn right and 2 minutes down the street). The room was ready to check in and was bigger than our Tokyo hotel. Single beds in Japan are bigger than US (45 inches wide) so we could have done with 2 instead of 3 but there was still space in the room. Hotel is in very good condition. Would have liked breakfast included, but can't complain. Would be good to include the local number of the hotel instead of the 1-800 number on the hotels.com receipt so you can call if needed. Had no problems with checkout and loved that our payment was already made back home in US dollars, since Japan only seems to want cash (yen) for everything. Przeczytaj więcej
"great hotel"
great value for money, good location, very polite friendly staff with excellent English. They give you a very handy map of the city. couldn't ask for better.
This is a great hotel, well appointed and staffed with very competent and friendly staff. It is very close to markets and the centre of Kyoto. Our only shock was the size of the room which was barely big enough for two people. However after a day we got used to it and really didn't care because everything, including the bathroom, was first-class.

"Lovely Hotel"
I stayed in five hotels while traveling to six cities in Japan, so I've had the opportunity to compare hotels. Second only to the Park Hyatt in Tokyo (which was much more expensive, needless to say), this was the best hotel I stayed at. The location is very good. It is only three stops (K8) on the subway due north of Kyoto station (K11) on the Karasuma […] Line. It cost 210 yen per adult to get there. If you exit from the right stairway, the hotel one half a block away. Hotel Monterey Kyoto is on a major street, across from a Circle K, a Family Mart grocery store, and two Starbucks. It is also right next to two ATM banks, but I found my card would only work at the Post Office ATMs above Kyoto Station. The hotel has a great clock on the outside with marching men that pass each other on the hour, and smaller men that march at other times. The picture of the lobby actually doesn't do it justice. It is very beautiful with marble/granite floors, below the hanging crystal. There is a church on the first floor, inside the building where people are often getting married. The breakfast on the second floor (available for a reasonable price per person) was great with all-you-can eat American and Japanese style breakfast choices. The food was delicious, and the décor was very elegant. The room was large for Japan style with enough room for a double bed, a chair, and room to walk between. The room was nicely decorated and very clean. All the wait staff were able to understand English and were very polite. You needed your room key to get on the floor, so the place felt more secure than places where you can go all the way to the rooms without a key. The place is within walking distance (I did it) to Nijo castle and the Nishiki market. Cabs are always outside the hotel to take you to the outer temples/shrines if you don't want to take the subway. All-in-all, I would recommend this hotel to my friends without reservation (pun not intended). Przeczytaj więcej

They helped us to access the various areas when we wanted to explore around and take some pictures. We asked for iron and the iron and board was delivered to our room within minutes. Room was neatly tidied up every day. There were Starbucks near the hotel and the hotel was walking distance away from the subway station exit. Convenience stores were conveniently located.
