The Westin St. Maarten, Dawn Beach Resort & Spa - Oyster Pond

This is my 3rd time staying at the Westin. I used to live on the island for school, so I got to know it pretty well. While its far away from Maho where are the clubs are at and also from Grand Case, where all the restaurants are, it's close enough to Orient Bay on the French side and Philipsburg on the Dutch. I love the Sunday brunch there! It's amazing! […] Bottomless mimosas, crab legs, oysters, and much more for $50. The pool is beautiful. They have this great, big jacuzzi in the back that you can dip into all night. The beach is beautiful, just windy and has a strong current that goes from right to left. All the way on the right side there's a nice reef right by the shore, so make sure to bring snorkel gear. It's nice because its so close to the shore and if you want, you can let the current take you the length of the beach and you don't have to work hard for it. The rooms are great, especially the ones with ocean view. For the first time I had one and I left the balcony door open and it gave us a relaxing sound all night. Casino is small but no aiming is allowed which is great. Has all the games you need accept roulette and baccarat. Service here is top notch. You really could stay the whole weekend here. The property is beautiful, in a very remote area. Meal costs seem high. $55 for a Sunday Brunch seems quite high, when normal breakfast buffet is only $7,00. Too pushy on the time share portion of the property.

We were very well looked after at the Westin .You have to be aware that the hotel is not in the midst of all the activities. It is a quiet, peaceful environment. If you want to rent a car or go on excursions , all the services are there. Also, you can walk to Oyster Pond and there are some eating areas there.Good place for a family, young children.

Our trip to St. Maarten was wonderful. We booked the Westin because it was recommended by friends who had been staying elsewhere but had come across it and visited. We took their advice and booked there, knowing that it was supposed to be a beautiful resort situated on one of the island's best beaches. To say the very least, we were not disappointed […] and were happily surprised at each turn. The staff, from cleaning to the hotel manager, were courteous, quick and efficient. The hotel was fairly quiet despite being full. There was never any need to rush to save a chair by the pool or on the beach - there were plenty available. The hotel was always clean and the grounds were kept in immaculate condition. The infinity edge pool was spectacular and spacious. The general feeling on the resort was one of luxury and indulgence. The hotel and property are very nice and the hotel personnel are extremely friendly and accommodating. They will go out of their way to handle requests that you may make. The only negatives are that the hotel does not provide umbrellas in the pool and beach area and it does get very hot. Typical Westin. Lovely but had a bit of business feel which - as a frequent business traveler - I prefer to avoid when on vacation. Prices in hotel and surrounding area are outrageous. They didn't have our reservation when we tried to ckeck in. They did a good job getting things right the next day. We will give them another chance next year. Everythig else was very good.

Attitude of the wait staff in the restaurant was disappointing. Although this "don't care" attitude is typical of many of the islands, one would expect a friendlier attitude when staying at a hotel in this price range. Also, its surprising that this hotel allows smoking in the lobby casino.

Great getaway for our 20 th anniversary. The view at poolside is awsome.great beaches and friendly staff. To me, the hotel and rooms need a little upgrading. Cracks in the ceilings, old caulking in room and no detail to cleanliness.....max at the ocean restaurant helped me with a private beach dining table for latenight wine and deserts which was wonderful. […] Also visited Anguilla and St. Barth, beautiful as well. Great front desk staff. Poor restaurant staff, rude and slow or nice and slow. Nice big pool. Pretty beach. Really pretty bay. But the tides and currents made it my least favorite beach to visit. The room was ok. nice big bathroom. didn't provide shampoo or shower gel - probably just an oversight.

I went with our family for 8 days at Christmas. We loved the resort it was perfect for teens. All the younger kids around were also having a blast. The staff was so nice and help full. Dawn was an amazing concierge and every restaurant was great. Big Fish,Canoa,Yvettes all close by. On the French side it's very expensive but the Lolos are fun and the […] bakeries outstanding. The food was good at the hotel but gets old after a couple days. Stay away from the Buffet's the Christmas one was really expensive for the quality of food. We rented a boat for a day to go diving and fishing, then scuba diving another day and the butterfly farm. Most of the time we loved the pool and beach and girls day at the spa! We met other families from around the world as it attracts nice families but not the snobby type. Island people incredibly friendly and island just big enough to explore and very different in each area. Over past airport out toward the beach the sunsets and coast line were amazing. Hotel rooms needed to be renovated. Large stains on carpets and light fixtures and towel fixtures had rusted. The outside of the hotel and the restaurants all seemed very nice. They should have umbrella stands around the pool for shade as well.

Tlhe Westin Dawn Beach met our needs for a pre and post night stay for our cruise. Our guest room and bathroom were exceedingly spacious with lovely verandas with a partial ocean view. The pool area was lovely with ample seating for all guests and a large pool for swimming. The poolside restaurant provided excellent ambiance for breakfast, lunch and […] dinner. Overall, the staff was courteous and helpful. The location, however, is quite far from the airport and marina, requiring rather expensive taxi rides. Stayed here two nights prior to leaving on a cruise. It was fantastic! Very comfortable bed, nice room w ocean view of St Barts, quiet neighborhood, hotel is not huge so everything was in close proximity (pool, restaurant, bar, casino). Great staff, great location, nice rooms. Restaraunt was fine, but a bit overpriced. Since the hotel is oceanfront, some of the metalic fixtures in the room were oxidized. It didn't bother us.

The resort was nice. The food was below average and overpriced. The resort is really remote and not close to anything. So rent a car or you will have to pay a lot of money on cabs. If you want to be closer to everything I would not stay here. On average it can take you up to an hour to get from the airport to the resort. I stayed at the Westin for a long weekend with a girl friend. Amazing resort with beautiful grounds, but there are a few things to be aware of. - There are no umbrellas/shade around the pool or at the beach. You must pay for a cabana. - The staff is friendly, but our keys didn't work the entire first day due to a technical issue. The pool area is gorgeous and the overall environment is very relaxing. I had a fabulous stay at the Westin in ST Maarten. It was a little difficult to find, but once I located the property I was in heaven! Overall stay ok - Bellhops great - food service workers need better attitudes - bartender needs to remember to actually put alcohol in drinks. Was told we were being upgraded to ocean front room when we actually got the ocean view room we paid for. Nice pool. Restaurants next door excellent - Big Fish, Canoa, Mr Busby's.

This hotel would be perfect has it not been for the fact that, we initially didnt get the rooms we booked (it took 24 hrs), our room was not cleaned after being out all day, we met one of the most discurteous bartenders ever, we ended up getting a bottle of wine every time there was a big issue (2 bottles of wine and a cheese plate). The hotel is clean, the food is average but the service is just awful. Servers at the pool, bar, resturants and casino are not at all attentive. I dont think they have figured out yet that the more they take care of their guests, majority Americans from what I could tell, the more we tip!! The pit boss even had the nerve to tell a person that was betting heavy at the table to walk to the bar instead of calling a server over. They just dont get it!!!
