Britt Scripps Inn - San Diego

While we liked the Scripps overall, our room was unpleasant. It was a tiny room on the first floor. It was so small there was only room for one strait back chair. It was also uncomfortably hot and very noisy due to the heat pump just outsidd our window. Recommend no one stay in that room.

The hotel is a magnificent old building. Maintained in excellent condition. Wonderful staff. Great experience. Every afternoon cheese and wine free of charge. Breakfast is good but too expensive. Only nine rooms and a homely atmosphere.

My wife and I really enjoyed my stay at the Britt Scripps Inn. I wish I had booked extra nights as a two night stay was a bit short. I would have loved to stay for an extra breakfast or two. Fabulous scones and Omlets. This place has much character and is well kept. The staff was extremely helpful and made checking in and checking out a very easy task. […] They really work hard and at a quick pace, especially during breakfast, but it seems to come-off as and effortless. We know this was do to great planning and team work. The Staff was also very helpful with providing local travel directions and recommendations for day-life, night-life and restaurants. the first night the heater did not work at all, I was told to wait it will work. it never did, so the 20 something person in charge told me I could have an extra blanket ( Really ) I asked her to 'make it right' or I was checking out... she told me the owner was out of town and no one was going to fix it. She did have have a clue. only one 20 something […] is on staff at a time so you are pretty much on your own. The bill that was quoted on line was not the same as the bill given to me at the end of my stay, so I am still waiting to see what the final tab will be, I had no extra charges and the totals were not even close. In a word...AWESOME!!!

What a great hotel. Decorated to perfection. The beds are the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in for a hotel. The staff was great and the breakfast was very good. I highly recommended this hotel and will be back for sure.

I did not expect a bed and breakfast place to be so awesome. The hotel is beautifully renovated and a maintained in an excellent condition. Every room is decorated differently. Unlike a traditional continental complimentary breakfast at most other hotels, it is freshly made with a different menu everyday. They also serve complimentary cheese and vine […] in the evenings. A wonderful & beautiful bed & breakfast in San Diego. Within walking distance of Balboa Park and close to the infamous Gaslamp District. We always stay at the Britt Scripps Inn when we are in San Diego. The staff are very attentive and cordial. The antiques are absolutely gorgeous. We highly recommend this hotel!

Absolutely Wonderful!!! Beautifully maintained, personable staff, comfortable bed and delicious breakfast. Lovely gardens with many unusual plantings. Would stay again without a doubt. Close to zoo and other attractions, convenient parking and over all a very pleasureable stay.

Unique rooms and great atmosphere totally different from clinical hotel room normally found. Comfortable parlour to relax and enjoy the history of the building Top rate breakfast provided

I went to San Diego to see the Stickley exhibit at the Museum of Art and to tour the Marston House, both located in Balboa Park. Britt Scripps Inn is minutes away from the free tram that travels around Balboa Park. I got lots of advice from the managers on duty. Our visit to the Britt Scripps Inn was a huge success. Although it is a little more costly than some downtown hotels, the free parking and free wi-fi make up the difference. Otherwise, the Inn is beautiful. Our room was very clean and the linens were the best I have ever seen. The room was a little dark, as the period would have been, but with the lovely […] period furnishings and the woodwork, it was very comfortable. I would stay there again. Although we did not take advantage of the wine and cheese in the evening, the breakfast was hot and fresh. The staff are not terribly quick with service, but they are very friendly. This was the perfect place to stay to take in the zoo and Balboa Park. Our first time in San Diego and we picked a winner. We spent the first few days of our trip on Shelter Island than closer to the park at Britt Scripps. A house with a lot of history and such charm. This place is wonderful. The beds sleep wonderfully, the location was very convenient to the harbor front so we easily made it to see the awesome 4th of July fireworks. On top of the hotel itself, the people that work there are great and accommodating. The breakfast was five-star worthy!

Victorian mansion beautifully decorated with antiques in every room. Quality bedding, bathrobes and towels. Complimentary breakfast and wine and cheese in the evening were fantastic and varied daily. What could have been a nice stay was a very frustrating experience. Arriving in San Diego for a final visit with my grandmother in Hospice, we made reservations through hotels.com and 3 hours later the staff at Brit Scripps had not been updated. Even though my credit card had been charged and I had the confirmation information, my husband and I were […] turned away. We were desperate to get to the Hospice, so we didn't return until after 10PM that evening and were greeted unkindly, as though we had inconvenienced "M.," who was the overnight staff that evening. As for breakfast, it's a decent meal, but it takes more than 35 minutes to be served, and by served, I mean mostly reheated from being prepared early in the morning. Staff made sure you felt pampered. Breakfast was high quality. Evening wine with appetizers was better than we expected. The only draw back was the bathroom for our room (Gothic) was small, but we did have a balcony. Great place to celebrate a special occasion without children.

We stayed 5 nights at the Britt-Scripps In, and recommend it highly. The location was great for what we wanted to do in San Diego, the building and grounds are lovely, the service was excellent, as was the breakfast (if somewhat slow).

The hotels I usually stay in for business in San Diego were booked so I did a search and found Britt Scripps. This is a wonderful place and I will definitely stay there again for business or vacation. If you are tired of the same old hotel experience, try Britt Scripps! What a treat-- a warm welcome, staff who cater to every need, warm, cozy rooms, […] ambiance, not to mention the beautiful interior and exterior, complete with a porch and gardens! Britt Scripps Inn is a lovely renovated Victorian within a 5 minute walk of Balboa Park. Comfy accomodations.. We had a lovely room with large bath for 5 nights. Bed was great. Linens lush. Beautiful antique furniture throughout. Grounds were lovely and well kept. Porch was delightful during the early evening wine and cheese reception. Breakfast changed […] every day, with delicious homemade scones or muffins. Service was great and times available for breakfast was very accomodating 7am to 10 am daily. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the Britt Scipps B&B in San Diego. We arrived early after disembarking from our cruise ship. The short trip to the hotel had us their around 10am. Our room was ready!! As this was a record setting high temperature day that was a welcome plus. We went to the zoo, also a short distance from the hotel if you take the […] free Balbao Park Trolley to the Art Museum and walk. Unfortunately we had to cut our visit to the zoo short because of the heat. But our air conditioned cottage gave us the relief we needed. The breakfast was excellent and filled us up for a day of sight seeing in Old Town. This is a great hotel and the staff was great in meeting our every need, especially in keeping our luggage locked up until our late night flight out of Lindburgh Airport, also a short distance away. This was the most unique hotel I have ever stayed in, really great. The hostess was very accommodating from the minute we arrived. The attention to detail is meticulous throughout. Definitely a nice alternative to a standard chain hotel experience. The hotel and the rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated. Can easily tell how much work went into the look. Staff are very friendly and for the most part very knowledgable and ready to accommodate any reasonable request, including early check in. Breakfast is very delicious, […] although a bit on the heavier side. Only downsides we saw: - the queen bed in our room (library room) was quite uncomfortable, lumpy and squeaky; - the design of the freestanding tub and the curtain made it impossible to shower without getting everything around you completely wet. Whenever we come to San Diego, we always stay at the Britt Scripps Inn. The staff is courteous and helpful. We love the breakfast! We would highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast.

My wife and I located this little gem just a day before we were set to arrive in San Diego on our family road trip down the west coast. It fit our mood and needs completely. We were kindly met by one of the hotel staff, though due to its size and location we were doubting we were in the right place. The old victorian house looks a bit out of place due […] to other newer structures but was beautiful both inside and out. The room, which was 1 of 9 available, was very cozy and felt like a blend between old victorian times and the 21st century. Although there clearly was no lobby (or a need for one) it seemed as though the staff was always present and offered assistance at every turn. The location could not have been more perfect for our needs as it was just about 1.2 mile walk straight down 4th or 5th Ave to the Gas Lamp district and was two blocks away from the edge of Balboa Park. The Britt Scripps Inn is a beautiful Victorian Bed and Breakfast. The entire house is a wonderful feast for the eyes. The Library Room is lovely and very comfortable. We arrived to find a most grand and lovely Victorian home before us. We were warmly welcomed by the on duty Butler, Ben, who was kind, informative, and ever so accommodating. Soon we had crystal champagne flutes in our hands with a most refreshing bubbly...accompanied by an afternoon snack of cheese, crackers, and prosciutto. Yummmm! The Hotel had everything […] to be desired, however, understandably we were not able to take our first-class morning breakfast in our room on the balcony (it's not allowed as there are most valuable antiques throughout and the staff is very concerned with maintaining integrity as accidents do happen...). Charming bed & breakfast, only stayed one night so I didn't get to take the tour, but it is an elegant historical building in great condition. They served an incredible artichoke omelette. . . I'd definitely go back just to have that.

If you enjoy Victorian architecture, this is the place to stay. Walk to Balboa Park, restaurants are nearby. Not a lot of available parking, but it worked out.
