stayed there for a weekend the hotel is very nice and comofortable and the roof terrace is just fantastic. the only down side is the knowledge of the bar tenders we asked for a dirty martini we got olive juice instead. but the rest is just worth the stay..

For a first time visit to Barcelona, La Rambla makes sense I guess, and H1898 is a sure bet – serene decor, great staff, comfy rooms. But anyone who wishes to avoid a mass-tourist main-drag, should avoid La Rambla location of H1898. I had an excellent stay at this hotel. Perfect location! Couldn't have been better. The staff were very very helpful. Comfortable, relaxing, convenient hotel from which to visit Barcelona. Spa and indoor pool are great, especially in winter, rooftop pool area also looks very nice. Great location near main bus and subway lines at Pl Catalunya and old part of town and the large open air Market just down the street. Right on the Rambla without the noise.

The Hotel 1898 is perfectly situated on La Rambla with a significant number os the "must see" sites within easy walking distance. La Rambla itself is quite "touristy" which is perhaps to be expected but enjoyable none the less. Pleasingly, the pre visit warnings regarding the prevalence of pick pockets was unfounded. The Barcelona city tour bus is […] a strong recommendation as you can see all the sites and get off and on the bus as you see fit. A meal in the Marina area is also a strong recommendation. The only slight downside with the hotels was that the room heating had not been switched on in prior to our arrival and took a few hours to get up to temperature, but we were allowed to check in a little early so this was not to much of a disapointment. excellent! Best feature is the spa - pool and 2 saunas!!! Adorable rooms so comfortable

On arrival we were taken immediately to our room which was immaculate and had a beautiful bathroom with everything from shower gel, comb, shoe shine kit, vanity kit..... everything you could possibly need. Although our room was on La Rambla there was very little noise. The facilities in the hotel were excellent. The heated pool on the terrace was like […] stepping into a bath and there were always towels for your use, whether you used it first thing in the morning or late in the evening. The Spa was also beautiful and everywhere was very clean. We arrived on the airport bus which leaves you off in Plaza de Catalunya and the hotel is only a short walk from the Plaza (about 3-4mins). We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights/4days during our trip to Barcelona. I had read many reviews of the hotel prior to booking and they were all correct: it's a beautiful hotel, right on Las Ramblas, but slightly down a side street so you're not walking out the front door right into the crowds on Las Ramblas. We had heard and read a lot about pickpockets […] being a problem in Barcelona, and when we got to Barcelona we saw signs everywhere (even in a Starbucks) recommending you keep an eye on your belongings due to "professional pickpocketers operating in the area". The Hotel 1898 takes security seriously, by implementing a hotel room key access only for the elevators...however, there were a couple of occasions where we were able to get in the elevator and access the upper floors of the hotel without putting our room key in the slot. The staff is very helpful--we asked for information on the best way to use the Metro to get to Park Guell (which looks far away on a map, but is only about 20 minutes away by Metro), and when we arrived early on our first day (due to an early morning flight) we were informed that check-in was at 3pm...however, when we checked back after a couple of hours they were able to get us a room much earlier than 3pm. Our room (and the hotel in general) is extremely clean. We ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner our first night, and while the food was served beautifully, we were rather unimpressed by the taste. Hotel 1898 is very nice. More expensive than many others in the area, although much less than the The Meridien which is directly next door. The rooms were luxurious and comfortable. Our room was right on the Rambla on the third floor. I was afraid it might be noisy, but surprisingly there was more noise from the subway underneath the street than from […] crowd noise on the street. I suppose the sound from the subway somehow travels through the building structure - it comes through as a very low rumbling lasting for a few seconds. It never caused us any problems nor interrupted our sleep. Crowd noise can be heard only when the crowd is very boisterous or somebody is yelling loudly - this happened the night that the Barca football team defeated their archrival Real Madrid, which was fun. There are rooms in the interior of the hotel which I am sure are much quieter. We had requested a "matrimonial" room, meaning there was only one bed (a king-size) rather than the standard two twin beds, so perhaps our choices were more limited. Our room was plenty big, with a desk, a chair and small table, and the bathroom was very nice. The shower comes with instructions on how to use it (never seen so many knobs for a shower before), but everything worked fine and there was plenty of hot water. While walking down the hallways, we saw into some other rooms, and some of the interior rooms do look smaller than what we had, so there may be a tradeoff for less noise. The location is superb - right on the Rambla and less than a block from Plaza Catalunya - can't ask for better in the city. Service was excellent - the front desk staff were very helpful with suggestions and making arrangements. Most of them speak English - don't know about other languages (of course Spanish and Catalan are spoken). The building is an old tobacco company office and warehouse. Really excellent hotel - the rooftop terrace is fantastic, a perfect place to get away from the hustle of the Ramblas. The hotel is very well situated and decorated in a black and white modernist style that hints of the 1920's. I had one major issue with my stay and two minor ones. The hotel lobby had a very strong potpourri smell. The scent was so strong that I believe that it is also coming through the ventilation system and into the rooms. Despite being right on the Ramblas, our room was very quiet - the windows kept out any noise. The bed was large and very comfortable, The roof top terrace is spectacular with a small heated pool, bar and restaurant. We had spent 4 days in Barcelona at another hotel before departing on our cruise. When our cruise returned to Barcelona, we docked early in the morning so we knew our room at 1898 would not be ready. We went to the hotel, who allowed us to check in and let us know that our room would be ready around 3. Leaving our bags we wandered about the city, stopping […] back once or twice to drop off some of our purchases. After a long lunch we decided to take a chance and see if our room was ready, even though it was only 2pm. When we arrived, not only was the room ready, but our bags had been delivered to the room and neatly arranged. Our room faced the inside garden which kept out the noise of La Rambla, a huge bonus, considering we had to leave for the airport the next day at 4:30AM. We decided to lay out on the roof for a bit. The view was incredible and relaxing. Returning to our room we easily drifted off to sleep. Our wake up call came and after clearing the sleep out of our eyes we took the elevator down to the lobby. To our surprise, the bellman was waiting there when the doors opened and promptly took our bags to a waiting cab outside. It was the smoothest transition I have ever made. We are planning on returning to Barcelona and will definitely include Hotel 1898 in those plans. you cannot go wrong. The hotel room is not very big but very well decorated and cosy. Location is excellent as it is next to LaRamba.

Although the hotel was quite high quality and very clean, there wre a few things that wewere not hapy with: 1) No hot water - lukewarm showers (even in the morning) 2) No ordinary (English brekfast type) teabags 3) All lights were linked together so if you dimmed your bedside light, all lights dimmed. Even on full they weren't very bright. 4) No instructions […] for how to adjust air conditioning - there was a digital panel inside a cupboard, along with the use of safe instructions, but they were attached to the wall and the lighting was too dim to be able to read them! 5) Bath robes and 4 lovely big towells were provided but no face cloths. Friendly staff ,superbly located,georgous building,lovely room,delightful penthouse bar ,BUT we think it is ridiculous that the hotel does not have an iron available for patrons to quickly press crushed clothes.This is a simple facility that should be available.Aside from that one gripe we would certainly recommend the hotel.

Very central hotel with easy access to all sights,entertainment and restaurants. Varying sizes of rooms in hotel so it would be wiser to request a superior room if possible. Excellent roof bar and restaurant which adds to the hotel. In general very pleased with stay and service and would use again.

Stayed here for one night after cruise. Very nice hotel right on Las Ramblas, so within walking distance of many attractions. This hotel has a great location on Las Ramblas and has very nice common areas, but for a rather expensive hotel the room was quite small and uncomfortable.

Our 2 nights at 1898 followed a week's visit to the southern coast in France. The jarring contrast between a quiet corner of the Catalan coast and the noise and hubbub of La Rambla couldn't have been more stark. We had a great experience here, and it was welcome comfort after staying at a state-run "Paradore" in Hondarribia, Spain. My only concern before arriving was that being on the Ramblas would be too noisy, but our room (facing away from the Ramblas, but above tapas restaraunts) was quiet and comfortable. Booked this hotel since it was recommended by a cruise line and read reviews. Glad I stayed. Convenient for walking challenged. Beautiful pools and rooftop view. Staff was very helpful with tourist info. Unbelievable!!! Hotel does seem to cater to business class. Breakfast was very pricey. Explore the streets. Bar is very nice. I would go back. In the […] elevator I asked people if they were happy with the hotel and would go back. Always got a yes. One lady was on her third stay. Do not worry about the high price meals. Starbucks and the restaurants on Santa Ana are worthwhile exploring. Living Barcelona restaurant makes a wonderful esparrecs bladers (asparagus appertizer). The attached church is recommened. Excellant location right in the midst of La Rumblas. Very modern room, nice amenities, accomodating staff -- everything we wanted for a few days R&R. I would choose it again if I needed a hotel in that area.

This hotel is right smack in the middle of La Rambla yet when you go inside you would never know you were on one of the busiest streets in Barcelona. Excellent service from the moment we arrived to departure. Restaurant staff could not do enough for us. Room was beautifully decorated and beds were very comfortable. Outstanding amenities. Rooftop bar a bit pricey, but the views were worth the price.

Overall the H1898 was a great stay in Barcelona. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice get-away. The location is great as it was close to many areas to walk to. The spa pool was very nice. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Easy walk to everything you need to see on your first visit. Located directly on the Rambla and next to the Boqueria, which can make it a bit noisy if your room faces the street. Hotel is clean and luxurious, rooms small but not too small. Nice bathroom. Best feature is the roof top bar. EXCELLENT sangria and tapas.
