Villa Rosa Inn - Santa Barbara

I liked the Eagle Inn better than this hotel, but they weren't available. Ended up booking a studio cottage which was almost like having a studio apartment in Santa Barbara. Not perfect, and hopefully they will fix the hole in the wall in the bathroom, but we were here for just one night and ended up enjoying the kitchen set up- ate take out and played […] games. The hotel is conveniently located right near the beach with a wide variety of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The room itself feels very private and secluded.

Great place to stay with an excellant staff (Brenda and Jessica) the only area that could be improved upon was upgrading the bathroom. Also our room did not have any furniture on hte balcony and we would have enjoyed it if it had soem type of chairs.

An inn within walking distance to the beach and the wharf. Longer walk to downtown. Neighborhood feel. Room very comfortable. No coffee maker, but a nice continental breakfast provided, along with a wine and cheese evening.

This place was perfect for a relaxing getaway. We were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to our room and parking. It was not as clean as I would have liked but was still was very quaint, quirky and homey, which is just my style. this hotel has a lot of character, and is located steps from the beach and State str. The room #5 was very large with a small kitchen complete with dishes, which makes it very easy to have a snack or a lite late dinner. The staff is very friendly. Our room was a studio with kitchen. It said for 4 people but there was only one king size bed. They did not have extra beds available. Fortunatly we had two small children with us so we could all sleep in it. Nice hotel, nice breakfast included, walking distance from the beach and harbour. overall nice

We were told we had a cottage,,,I think of a cottage being a small house kinda?? ,it was upstairs, it was more like a very small old apartment with one bedroom and the living room turned into a bedroom, the bed was AWFUL, the fake fireplace didn't work, the bedside lamp had to be plugged in to work,, ,,,there was no place to hang clothes and no hooks […] in the bathroom,,,we ask them to fix these things and they didn't. 1) Paint was coming off of the steps to the room. It looked tacky. 2) The curtain blinds in the kitchen were broken. Anyone outside could see inside, especially when we came out of the bathroom. 3) The bed squeaked non stop. The hotel staff was really nice and accommodating since we were traveling with an infant. They had a wine and cheese happy hour where we mingled with some great people. The hotel has quaint rooms with the comfort of old CA and kitchenettes. They also provide a happy hour with nice snacks and wine to meet the other guests or just sit by the fireplace or poolside. A continental breakfast is also provided so they make it as welcoming as possible. Plus the location is terrific just a few feet off the beach and a block […] from State Street which is the main street up downtown Santa Barbara. The walls are a bit thin since it's an older building, but fans provided in the rooms helps to alleviate any noise from the neighbors. I consider myself an experienced traveller and have stayed at many wonderful hotels, b&b's,inn's and auberges and this quaint inn is remarkable. Such character and the staff (Jessica) was amazing and took the extra time to accommodate my special requests without hesitatation or attitude. The hotel is old, and unfortunately, smells old. The photos on the website are misleading; our room didn't look anything whatsoever like that. What a disappointment.

I think this hotel used to be an apartment building. The studio bedroom was separated from a full kitchen which included an ironing board. It was clean but all the bed lininens, towe3ls, furniture, was quite old and not attractive. A noisy room with mold in the bathroom, no wireless connection, and a staff and manager with haughty attitudes. Their free parking is on the street. A really bad choice.

The web site displayed an old spanish home that had been transformed. The pool area was just what we expected, but the bungalow was bad. At first glance, ok, but then we really looked and the blinds were damaged, we got a view of trash dumpsters, the toilet seat was loose, the hot water faucet was loose causing water on the floor, spider webs on the […] lights and missing light bulbs. It was like staying at an old ladies smelly condo...bad bed...dust all over...rundown. Staff was not very friendly either.

I just got back from staying in one of the "cottages" over the weekend. The worst place I have EVER stayed in SB. The decor is pre 20th century with random antiques everywhere and the "cottage" is an old apartment building with other units. This particular unit had a kitchen with dishes, which we used, but, when the maid came to "clean" our room each […] day, the dishes were not taken out, so they piled up for 4 DAYS. In addition to not taking the dirty dishes, the trash in each room was also not taken out, so we had 4 days worth of trash also. It seems the only thing the maid does is take out the dirty towels - not exactly cleaning... On top of the trash and dirty dishes in the kitchen, the "cottage" itself smelled like what I imagine musty, cat pee smells like - disgusting. It was even worse when we sat down on the sofa. My friends and I put towels on the couches to sit on because we were afraid we would smell if we came in direct contact. Next - the bathroom.... oh, the bathroom. At first glance, it looked nice and remodeled, but after you get in the shower, you realize the jets in the tub have not been cleaned since it was installed about 5 or 6 years ago. The jets were black with mold/mildew - DISGUSTING. The front desk attendants were terrible, to put it nicely. Not the sharpest tools in the shed and they were very difficult to try to carry on a conversation with, when they were actually around. I say this because each time I went to the front desk, I had to ring a bell and it took them a good 5 minutes to get from the kitchen, which was behind the front desk, to the desk itself. Once there, one of the girls was always sucking a honey packet and knew nothing about anything I asked her about. Needs up date.

Bad customer service, no AC, rooms are smells terrible, mold in the tab, no parking, flooring squick, roll away bed is very old.

Good location & services. The room needs well maintenance and upgrade, especially the BED.

Cosy hotel. Unpleasant surprises includes: no aircondition, internet..rarely and if you order a standard room you might get the less attractive cottage and must quarrel to get refund. Don't recommend cottages. Otherwise a decent place to stay, just jeep the above in mind.

Close to all sites in downtown area. Fun conversion of old apartments to "Cottages". Very comfortable, friendly staff.

I booked this hotel for a wedding nearly six months ago. At that time I called to confirm the room and was referred to a room included on the website. When I showed up last weekend, they completely had the wrong room -- and have given mine to somebody else. Instead I was put in a dirty room that they hadn't planned on renting for the night. This was a cozy room. Very near the beach, It was clean and the staff was efficient. I would stay there again.

We very much enjoyed ourselves. The bungelows were perfect...the pool (poolside) and lobby very nice. The complimentary wine and cheese was delightful...as was the continental breakfast--way better than most. WOuld absolutely stay there again.

This Inn was quite cute from the outside, but it became clear this was just a facade. Upon our entering the hotel we first realized the cramped nature of the reception room and hoped that this was not a theme. When taken to our cottage we were shown another guest room by mistake of a paper error. The first room was much larger than the room we had to […] settle for. Don't get me wrong had I seen the room I settled in originally I would have been happy, but after seeing the greener pastures I had trouble settling for less. The activities that the Inn offers for comfort in the reception area are kind, there was a wine and cheese social the night we got there. The Inn had the feel of a converted set of apartments; from a small courtyard, to a small pool area, and a very full room. The cottage had a full kitchen along with a main bedroom/living room, but became to cramped with the dining table that was too big for the room, and an extra twin bed that did not need to be there. The room did provide great items of comfort however; a large walk-in closet, a faux fireplace, and a jacuzzi bathtub. The walls however are much like those in an apartment building, paper thin. I heard a full conversation between a father and mother about what they were going to for the day, lead me to question how much they could hear of my night. This was the perfect location to stay. The weather couldn't of been better. We walked about 25 steps to the sand.

Nice place in great location although the employed staff is very disconnected and not very present.

We stayed in Cottage #6 - the 2 "bedroom" and 2 queen bed cottage. Check- in and check-out was quick and easy, and the people at the front desk were courteous. The room itself was clean and well maintained. The decor, furnishings and building itself were decorated in an older, quaint and charming kind of way.The kitchenette and bathroom looked newly […] remodeled. The only kind of drawback was that this unit was advertised as a two bedroom cottage. It DID have two rooms, but there were literally only two rooms. (Not two bedrooms and a living room, as we had expected). I'd say that the layout was more like a one bedroom cottage that had a queen bed in the "living room". Very basic but comfortable. and quiet. The Villa was clean and nicely decorated. During the first night, the central heat would not work and the bedroom electric furnace also failed (so we only had the living room electric furnace for heat). Sometime after midnight, a circuit breaker tripped, causing some lights, the TV, and the living room furnace to fail. The desk manager had retired for […] the evening, so I had to call the emergency number, and the gentleman came to reset the breaker. The next day we were moved to a new villa, as the shower would barely get warm and the maintenance could not fix the heat in the original. In that room, a circuit breaker tripped twice, as the wiring could not handle the TV and the furnaces running in concurrence. Finally, during the night, the thermostat seemed to fail as the heat would not turn off and we roasted through the night. Upon arrival we checked in and were taken to our room from here our entire stay was terrible. I went out to our car to get our bags and this lady shouted at me from across the parking lot "you are not staying here are you? I said I was and then she asked me the room number. i have no idea who she was but I can only assume she was perhaps the owner. […] Our room was terrible and seemed to be under renovation. The pictures that are posted online for this villarosa inn are not true once you check in you feel that you are in shock to see the reality. We found the remodel on this property to appear like it had been done by the unskilled. The bathroom was the worst. The light switch cover didn't cover the hole in the tile. I'm of average height. The bathroom mirror was hung so high I could only see from my eyebrows up. Twice I found myself locked in the bathroom and had to get help from someone to […] let me out. When the maintenance man came to look at it he said I just had to grip the handle harder to turn it. Of the two windows in the bath, only one had a screen and the windows both opened onto a walkway.
