"Old and smelly"
This hotel is very old looking and smelling. I felt like I was going back in time which was enjoyable to me but not so much for my husband. The TV was old and lacked a remote. The curtains ripped. It certainly was an economy hotel but the price was not.

"The Charles Inn - downtown Bangor"
Not at all like the website protrayed. VERY tired, run down, filthy carpets, clean towels, clean bathroom, rotting window frames, dimlighting, drapery half falling off rods and desperately in need of a paint job...... In the middle of the bar/pub scene - which is great if you want to party. If you want to sleep - good luck! Truely uncomfortable beds, […] on top of that! Breakfast was fine - though we didn't really botherer except for a coffee - seeing how tired the inn was - one questions the state of the 'kitchen'. This place could be a cool and funky inn; with the injection of lots of cash for updating and upgrading. Very disappointed! Travelled with elderly parents - don't know if they are over the shock yet! "Not good at all"
I am a Hotels . Com Five Star member and am very displeased that you feature this hotel on your site. It is not what you advertised at all. The pictures you feature are false. The front of the building is peeling and has broken windows. I stayed there on 9/17/11 and it was positively awful. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in […] and the parking lot below was crowded with people partying into the night. The shower curtain was dirty as was most of the room. The TV got 3 channels. I would absolutely NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. Przeczytaj więcej
"Neat place. Hard mattress."
The lobby is also a casual bar with a Friends type cofee shop feel. The room was cozy with an old tv, but the mattress was hard and uncomfortable. The breakfast bar in the lobby was good. Parking was a little inconvenient.

"Funky Hotel in Downtown Bangor - pros & cons"
We visited Bangor to see Bob Dylan play at the waterfront pavilion. Our chief need was lodging that was walking distance from the show. We're not overly picky about style and comfort, but we value cleanliness and service. We rate our experience as average and overall we don't regret our choice. +++ for location and proximity to nightlife + for it's […] interesting and funky character for those of us who enjoy life off the beaten path + for the lobby filled with local artwork avaiable for puchase; lovely piano, comfy seating + for the little pub right off the lobby with outdoor seating and craft beer in the cooler + for free onsite parking + for reasonable price - for cleanliness - not filthy but not great - for aged furnishings in rooms - window AC in poor repair - for water pressure and temperature - for awful continental breakfast with lukewarm coffee that ran out and wasn't replaced - for the indifferent staff Przeczytaj więcej
"Charles Inn Bangor Maine"
Shabby Chic - Just not so chic. The Charles Inn is an old hotel and by the pictures you would presume it to be a quaint hotel with much retro charm. However I am afraid the charm is missed on this hotel. Staff were helpful but a little scattered, but they did move us when we complained about the ear shattering music coming from the pub across the street. […] The floor in the room was very uneven, which only added to the very uncomfortable beds as your feet were higher then your head as you lay in your bed. At one point we decided to try sleeping with our heads at the foot of the bed but that did not help the situation at all. I had such a good feeling about this but unfortunately was ultimately let down. Przeczytaj więcej

not a place for people with any respiratory problems especailly when its hot and humid and the rear parking is not a good idea especially with downtown parking didnt look or seem too safe
"The Charles Inn- a possible novel by Stephen King"
Stay away from the downtown area where the hotel(?) is located and from the hotel (if you want to call it as such). Scary, dirty, rundown and why would anyone stay here? We didn't stay. We got out of town as quickly as possible. Lost our $ but saved our lives. My wife still has nightmares.
bed was very uncomfortable, and to wake in the morning to a hamster running around the room i was not happy!!!!
great place to stay for convience for downtown concerts, friendly pub, and staff!
The hotel was unique and interesting, in a good way. It is good to find somewhere, in a city like this that provides a motel that is out of the ordinary. The inn has potential. The inn seems to be run in a fairly cheap way which womewhat diminished the effect somewhat. However, our only real complaint involves the bed. Our bed squeaked, every time we […] rolled over, and you can only imagine how irritating that can be when it happens all night long. It made for one lousy nights sleep. I don't know if all the rooms are this way, but we would asked for another room if we had known early enough. Przeczytaj więcej
"Charming Hotel in downtown Bangor"
We enjoyed our overnight stay in Bangor recently and wished we had more time to explore the area. Our room at the Charles Inn was as expected in an older hotel, so no surprises there. It was recommended that we try Thistle Restaurant for dinner and we were not disappointed. It was a pleasant walk from the hotel. The continental breakfast supplied by […] the hotel included all the usual fare that you would find in chain hotels with the addition of boiled eggs and sausage if you preferred. Przeczytaj więcej

Nice, clean, ambitious hotel with a lot of character. The owners/operators are very involved, which is pretty cool. The only problem was the ridiculously uncomfortable mattress. I can sleep on a sharp rock if I'm tired enough, but this thing was HARD. Despite the mattress, I'd definitely stay again-- you feel like you're supporting an actual person's […] business/investment/dream when you stay here, which is a pretty great thing to endorse when the usual options are predictable chain hotels. "local charm / Charles Inn, Bangor Maine"
comfortable, quiet, lobby full of work by local painters which Included a cafe with very reasonably priced libations. Loved the location in the middle of town, yet only ten minute drive to the airport. Quality linens, computer access. Lobby and computer room suffered from unseasonably warm weather. Ceiling fans installed in the public spaces would remedy […] this. Przeczytaj więcej
Hotel and room had a lot of character. Concierge was very helpful. Bed was a little too firm for my tastes but overall very cool place.

"great room for the money"
nice old hotel. could use some updating but, was a nice change of pace.
"Nice Hotel"
Hotel was great, great location, very well taken care of. Clean atmosphere also due to the non smoking inside rule ( which is a big difference). Only issue is there are 3 nightclubs very near and noise is somewhat loud till late night. But overall a very nice hotel.
"19 Century Bangor"
Charles Hotel is a quaint, old fashioned hotel. 19th Century. It's almost like a good Northern New England Bed and Breakfast, except it's in the center of a small, historic city (Bangor). It's not a high voltage area, except for the slots casino nearby. Very quiet. Free parking in back of the hotel. Casual restaurants next door and across the street […] and on both sides of the nearby river. A good place from which to explore Penobscot Bay destinations, such as Castine. Przeczytaj więcej
"A hotel with character"
Some folks may think character is a bad thing. But having become a weathered road warrior over the past 10 years I can safely say in the case of the Charles Inn, it was a great thing. The Hotel is owner owned and operated. That personal touch goes a long way. Contrary to other reviews I read, the bed was not as hard as a cot, it was fine. It's certainly […] not the Westin feather plush mattress but I had no trouble sleeping at all. The continental breakfast was interesting, but there was a free continental breakfast so that's always a plus plus. The Cable was lacking in my room, I only had the option of USA or CNN, but thankfully there was wireless internet. It was a little slow and streaming TV took forever to buffer, but patience went a long way. The hotel is located right down town walking distance to many great places to eat, and drink. There are some great stories I found online about the hotel. Ghost stories, as well as historical. The hotel is also called the Phoenix building because it survived 3 fires. In the lobby they have a guest book from 1890's and many other historical pictures and such. If that's not character, I don't know what is. Przeczytaj więcej
