I booked here partly to take advantage of the $25 food coupon. But when I arrived I found out you have to use it on the day you check in only, and they don't serve any breakfast in the restaurant. We got a super great rate from Hotels.com. We had a fantastic experience from the valet entrance to the time we left. When we arrived and they gave us a $25 voucher for food or drinks. Great hotel, but avoid the bar on the roof. It's a great spot to see the city, but the drinks are awful and the staff is surly. I first ordered a whiskey sour and could barely taste any whiskey. Disappointed with the lack of alcohol in my drink, I proceeded to order a double of Jack, neat. My "neat" jack was filled to the brim with ice and topped […] with a lime. Either the bartender on staff that night was ignorant, or it's the bar's policy to serve as little alcohol as possible. Hotel was amazing - i did however not initially get the treatment at the front desk i thought i should have. Expeida or I made a mistake on the night of arrival - they had charged me for the nights stay the evening prior to my acuall arrival - hotel had plenty of rooms - why not just agree to switch the night - Clearly they had not incurred additional […] expenses nor were tehy anywhere near booked - but i had to go through American Express and Expedia to resolve when the front desk could have made it far easier. Result worked out but after some anxious moments and frustration. It is next door to the market and on the same block as some of the best restaurants in Charleston. It is also a short walk to the old section of town and the harbor fountain. It was a great place to relax after a long day of walking. Very few hotels have this amenity and it was nice to be able to relax somewhere besides our room. After looking at the other hotels in the downtown, several of which we had considered when booking this hotel, we thought we both agreed that we would stay at the Market Pavillion the next time we visit. The hotel is beautiful and grand. The staff is even better. They gave us great recommendations for visits and restaurants. The pool and exercise room were not over the top, but adequate. This is a wonderful hotel whose staff is not happy because the management doesn't support or listen to them. They are going through the motions, but their is an absence of warmth and hospitality. "Market Pavilion Hotel in Charleston"
Beautiful hotel. We visited in early April, non heated pool, my son almost had hypothermia and could not wait to move to a hotel with a heated pool. :) The location is wonderful and the hotel has a nice decor. We had a plumbing problem on our floor that required several days of drying with fans to dry the carpets, this in the same hallway they serve […] your continental breakfast. This event spoiled our impression of the hotel as it seemed more like a discount hotel to have fans blowing round the clock to dry carpets from a plumbing problem. I'm sure there was no alternative, they had to do it. The hotel staff were professional. Stay at The Market Pavillion just don't eat at 225 Market. The food was expensive but tasteless. Try SNOB or High Cotton. "A small disappointment that resonates in big ways"
Had another great stay at Market Pavilion with one caveat. We booked through Hotels.com and received the advertised $25 coupon to use in the bar -- which we have done before & enjoy very much -- as well as a coupon for lunch on Sunday in the restaurant downstairs. The coupon specifically said the restaurant was open until 3. So at 2:30 on the dot, we […] went downstairs to have the meal we had been planning, only to be told that the restaurant closes at 2:30. We explained our plan and referred both the hostess and the front desk person to the coupon in our hand. We asked if we could possibly use the coupon at one of the bars, since this was the hotel's mistake -- and they refused. Now, this obviously isn't a big deal, and we can afford to eat wherever -- but for me, it's just the principal of the thing. We had made plans around the information we were given by the hotel -- the information was erroneous -- it was the hotel's fault -- and they should have absorbed their mistake and allowed us to use the lovely coupon in one of their other facilities. So, while I do love staying at the Market Pavilion and it is our hotel of choice in Charleston, this little act of disrespect and bad business will make me hesitant to book the hotel again.
