Bahia del Sol Beach Front Hotel & Suites - Potrero

Beautiful grounds, good food, quiet, decent beach. The Bahia is close to better snorkeling beaches, is right on a good walking and swimming beach, close to Playa de Flamingo, and about one hour and fifteen minutes from the Liberia airport. Great beach and beach hotel - for Costa Rica. If you want to be AWAY from the over-built and over-developed beach area, then this one of those places. A bit of a drive from Liberia airport (about an hour), but great location away from the crowds. Absolutely the best hotel we stayed at in the 27 days in Costa Rica!

We have been in CR for a month and the best hotel was, by far, the Bahia del Sol. The staff were excellent and the treatment was superb. We did some driving to other towns and there aremany great looking hotels. But while one could spend much more on a fancy place, I doubt that the service and food would be any better. The beach at this hotel is beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast that was included with the hotel stay was okay. They were always out of hashbrowns (we were thinking that they were too lazy to cook more of them); we had to ask for hashbrowns whenever we wanted them. We had dinner at this hotel, we had the special which was fried […] snapper, it was okay. They never mentioned the price of it to us which annoyed us, it was $30.00 US which was more than any other meal on the menu (they call that their special?). The grounds at this hotel were tidy, very beautiful. There were always lounge chairs available. The pool was great. The sand in the ocean was sweet to walk in (no rocks). This was a wonderful stay for us! The staff were all very nice as well as professional and accommodating. The rooms and grounds were beautiful as well as the food excellent. Being in between the pools, bar and restaurant and the ocean beach was priceless!

Very nice and private hotel well located on a very quiet beach. Rooms are clean and comfortable with a bath tub in our private backyard! The only negative aspect is the very expensive and exaggerated prices at the hotel restaurant but you will find restaurants around that offer good quality and more affordable food.

The rooms are not on the beach but the property is. It is very beautiful and lush. You feel like you are lost in paradise. The property is private and a great place to take your Lover.

Hotel is very nice, secluded and clean. I had extremely restful vacation there. Restaurant offers excellent meals and service is great. Drinks at the bar a reasonably priced, made from premium liquors and large. Didn't know it takes as much fresh pineapple to make good Pinacolada, best I've ever tasted. This hotel is very well kept and the staff is very friendly, and we were upgraded from the room we booked which was a very nice surprise. This location is a ways away from the fun town of Tamarindo which is where we spend all of our time, it's a 30 minute drive to there so we rented a car. This hotel has beautiful landscaped areas around the hotel (like a conservatory feel). The staff is excellent and does their best to resolve any problems. Breakfast was decent. The other food was ok, I wasn't crazy about any of it. Beach here is beautiful. The biggest problem is the room had several maintenance issues which I guess couldn't be helped, […] a/c broke one day and was quickly fixed. One day no hot water, so they replaced the tank and the toilet wouldn't flush- fixed that right away. But always calling maintenance was a bit annoying despite their quick response. Convenient to many attractions and beaches. Hotel was beautiful, yet comfortable. Personable, not pretentious. The staff was the best. The food was delicious. Appreciated the free WiFi. We enjoyed every day.

The staff, quality of room and value were outstanding. we had a great off season room rate for a 2 bedroom apartment. You'll need a car if you want to see anything else but the resort itself is well maintained, the quality of the food excellent and all staff members were very nice. From the minute we drove through the gate we encounter genuinely friendly and helpful staff. We chose Bahia Del Sol Hotel for the last night of our 10 day CR vacation for it easy acess back to the Liberia airport. We pleasantly encounted so much more than we expected. First they upgraded us to a Suite for no additional charge. The grounds, room and […] beach/pool chairs were all very well taken care of. The rooms are bright, well equiped with AC, coffee etc and provided a very relaxing time. The Bar was very reasonably priced with a quality happy hour with a large variety of drinks and grear soothing background music that were great! Not enough can be said about the open air beach view restaurant. We ate dinner and breakfast there and again it was amazing for quality, presentation and value. The pool was spotless and grounds were manicuredIt is very clear that the owners of this hotel and it's staff are truely doing all that is ossible to give their guest a memorable tropical CR paradise experience. We will certainly be returning and highly recommend this tropical paradise to our friends and another that want to experience this part of CR. We had 2 nights reserved at Bahia del Sol and then planned on wandering the countryside and staying wherever we were, but liked the beach area between Playa Flamingo and Playa del Coco so much that we wanted to stay there again before we left a week later. We liked the location which is more quiet asnd less tourist traffic. Easy to go from there to whenever you want more "action. Suggest it is bet to rent a car if you stay here for any length of time. We stayed at Bahia at the beginning of our trip and then again at that end of our trip. We had a two-bedroom suite both times which was perfect for our family of four. We have two large preteen boys and they shared a room, but each had their own bed. The suite was spacious, very tastefully decorated and we could spread out without tripping over each […] other. The grounds of Bahia are simply beautiful...as a gardener, I could not get enough the meticulously maintained "jungle." The pool is cleaned daily and is fabulous. My boys loved the swim-up bar where their favorite bartender made them frozen lemonades, concocted by scratch. The beach in front Bahia is definitely one of the nicest in that region, and EMPTY! The waves are low and perfect for small kids and gentle boogey boarding. The staff is above and beyond gracious, and over-the-top accommodating. We were always called by our names, even the kids...they remembered our drink tastes, and were always checking in to make sure our needs were met. We came in contact with Michael, Hector, and Maureen at the front desk--always able to help plan our activities, give recommendations, etc. Our favorite waiter above and beyond, is Franscisco...always on the ball and is always there when you need him. Orlando is THE MAN behind the bar! Great folks. The hotel food is good. The breakfast is included and also good, based on European standards. When you've had enough hotel food, walk down the beach for lunch to Las Briseas for fish tacos and a margarita. We ate there 4 times. The fish is fresh...the location is perfect...I hear ladies night on Wednesdays is the bomb for those looking for nightlife where there isn't a lot happening. We will definitely return! We had a few issues with our room, but the service was great. Maureen at the front desk had infinite patience in helping us with our issues, and Carlos and Roy in the restaurant were friendly and kept us smiling and laughing through our visit. The pool needed a bit more attention, but the amazing food at the restaurant more than made up for it. Beautiful Suite room with kitchen, excellent A/C, comfortable beds and clean bathroom with good water pressure. Grounds nicely landscaped, pool area more than adequate with grassy sitting areas and shade. Restaurant very good food, including the breakfast. Would return again!!!!

The Bahía del Sol in Potrero Bay is a wonderful, small hotel. We stayed for 6 nights and we found the staff, from reception to dinning room are attentive and always helpful. However, if you are looking for days of peace and quiet, a practically empty beach, beautiful sunsets right in front of you, good food at the hotel and at the little beach shack called "las Brisas" just down the road (or a just a walk down the beach for lunch) and a wonderful 4 hour sail and snorkelling on a catamaran, this is the place for you. Even our teenage children found it peaceful and restful as they read, painted, and slept soundly. This hotel was great. The staff were very charming and helpful. They helped us get surf lessons and go snorkeling. They gave us directions and recommendations for the best spots when we didn't want to do an organized tour. You do have to drive about a mile on an unpaved road to get to the hotel, but it's well worth it.

This is a great hotel, almost like home away from home (we got upgraded to a suite). The cons - 10 minutes on a dirt/hardly paved road from the main paved road. Few eating choices outside of the hotel's restaurant in the area. Take your bug repellant as gnats will nag you all night, no nets in their bedrooms (gnats are common throughout Costa Rica). […] Found a cockroach in our room as well, but somewhat understandable as they have a lush garden onsite. This hotel is right on the beach. Other hotels in the area that are right on the beach (versus a block back) are much more expensive. The staff was great. they would keep the bar or pool open late for us so we could swim and drink. The only problems were the WiFi did not carry out to the rooms away from the central office area and the desks in the rooms […] were very small and wobbly to work on. The road to the hotel is maybe 3 kilometers of rough gravel. The bus (if you choose public transportation - far cheaper than shuttles and private transportation) that takes you to Playa Potrero, drops you off at the start of this road, and there aren't very many taxi's in the area. So I wouldn't recommend taking the later bus, because you may arrive […] after dark depending on the time of year. If you do not have a phone (as we did not), you will find yourself walking along the dusty gravel road with all of your luggage to the hotel. It just makes you all the more appreciative of the hotel when you arrive. They give you a free strawberry daiquiri on check in. Some rooms have hammocks off of the back porch area - this is a very nice bonus. You may not use it much, but they are very comfortable. Comfortable bed, pillows. Good shower, kind of low water pressure. Pet peeve: (and this pretty much applies to all hotels these days) I can't stand the use of CFL's - the lighting is just too dim in most cases, and at the same time - harsh, if they don't use the coated ones. The view from the restaurant is awesome, as is the warm breeze coming off of the pacific ocean. Maybe we got lucky, but the weather was PERFECT for our too-short stay in this hotel. It is humid (duh!), but sitting there with the breeze, it feels perfect. When you walk out of your room, it might feel a bit "heavy", but as soon as you feel the breeze, any discomfort disappears. The area between the rooms and the restaurant is beautiful as well. You can see lizards and birds, and some of the foliage actually has plant labels. It is very peaceful, but I doubt you will spend much time there. Between the restaurant and the beach is a great lawn with comfy chaise lounge chairs and shade umbrellas. From the edge of that lawn, you walk right out onto the beach, and are only 50 yards or so from the ocean. We enjoyed just lazing and reading on the chairs, and venturing into the very mild surf. Pague una tarifa razonable por un hotel en mi opinion de 3 estrellas no de 4. Por lo cual estuve satisfecho sin embargo otros huespedes pagaron tarifa completa y estaban decepcionados. A un precio bajo o competitivo, vale la pena. La comida del hotel no es la mas rica (y cara) ni el servicio el mas amable, a excepcion de una o dos personas.

Travelling around Costa Rica and staying at different hotels connected to the big international chains it was a pure pleasure to arrive at Bahia del Sol. Reasonable prized this was the perfect place just to relax. It has a boutique feeling without being luxury The friendliness among the staff gave the whole place a very relaxed atmosphere.
