This hotel only had one thin blanket and a sheet on the bed. The sheets had static electricity so bad. We couldn't use the heater because it created a continuous, loud clicking noise. We slept in our sweat pants and sweat shirts. We were cold and uncomfortable. Bathroom floor was freezing cold. TV remote did not work. The Hotel was lovely, staff were very friendly. Rooms were large and spacious. Towels and Bedlinnen were changed daily. The location whilst good meant in some cases that we had to use Taxis to get to some of the sites we wanted to visit. However our overall experience at The Eastgate Tower Hotel was great. The hotel was in need of a bit of maintenance and upgrade, but was still very adequate. My room was very big, and very comfortable. It had a hob, oven, sink, microwave and fridge freezer. The fridge was handy for storing some food for breakfast. The staff were very nice and helpful. This was my first visit to New York and was concerned about the apartment due to certain reviews, I need not have worried. The location was excellent for seeing all the sights, also the local bars and restaurants were so close and ideal after a day walking around. Am a frequent visitor to New York and have stayed in many hotels in the Manhatten area. Second time to stay at this hotel and already looking forward to a return visit. Top marks for comfort, value and location. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Will be recommending to all my friends.

In need of a good freshen up inside, but then no doubt the price would shoot up.. So we sacriificed luxury for location. This hotel will not win any awards for style, but for the price it was very good. The room is quite large by NY standards and has a convenient refrigerator, small microwave and coffee maker. Although the heating system was difficult to adjust to our needs (too warm the first night, too cold the third night), the location was reasonbly close to transportation centers, making travel around the city convenient.

Never having been to NY, we had sticker shock when we started pricing hotels. We settled on this one as it was lower-end priced and seemed to be a good location but we were apprehensive. The Eastgate Hotel is a small -- 25 floor, 225 room--apartment hotel on 39th Street, in the Murray Hill neighborhood near the East River and the United Nations. At the same time, it was just a few blocks' walk to all the subway lines in Grand Central Station, and city busses were just a block away on Second Avenue. This is definitely not a luxury property like the grand 4- and 5-star hotels, but the longer we stayed the more we appreciated it. Elevators were compact and crowded during rush hours, but crowded elevators are common at many big city hotels. Our junior suite was quite spacious. The art on the walls wasn't my favorite, but that's not uncommon. Booking and paying well in advance got us a better price and value than at other hotels we considered. This was my first visit to an Affinia hotel. The suite was enormous--a bedroom and a living room with a full kitchen and two bathrooms. However, there was an opened bar of soap on the floor, one thin blanket with not an extra in sight, and no health facility whatsoever. I travel often to this area but would not stay here again.

Would have preferred a king size bed in a room that was very big . TV was old but worked well.No safe in room but in front desk.

Great midtown east location, but check in procedure was a bit slow. Recommended for good priced option.

We stumbled upon this Gem of a hotel on Hotels.com whist searching for accomodation in New York. Although this hotel is not right in the centre of the New York action, it is still only a short 15 - 20 minute stroll to Times Square and even less to Grand Central Station. I have recommended this hotel to another friend of mine who will be visiting New York in 2012. We stayed for four nights in October 2011 and were placed on the seventh floor, the room despite it's relative close proximity to the street below, was very quiet. We enjoyed our stay at Eastgate Tower. The location 5 blocks from Grand Central was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful, seeing to every request very promptly. It's an older hotel so the kitchen, bathroom and some furnishings were a little outdated but the suite was spacious and comfortable. Lovely bed - so comfortable! the hotel is near Times Square, fifth ave and the UN yet it is very quiet at night. Great for people interested in sight seeing and not wanting to spend much. The rooms are super clean and having a kitcken, a fridge, and a toaster was very convenient and a big plus. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The rooms are good sized and the hotel is a pleasant walk from the Morgan Library. Also, the kitchenettes and profusion of local markets make it possible to save money on meals.

We enjoyed staying here and the bellman was such a great help with all of our luggage and getting us a taxi big enough for all 7 of us.

Peeling wallpaper, window shades with large holes. For the price I paid, I was frankly quite disappointed. The staff are super friendly, the location perfect, the rooms a bit dated, but for New York you get masses of space. The rooms are cleaned every day, the sheets are clean. I would ask for a high floor, so the traffic noise is not too disturbing, but that goes for all hotels in NY. Would stay again for sure

The staff was extremely friendly and eager to assist me. The lobby was not huge - it was clean and efficient - but I preferred having a nice spacious room instead! Nice view, nice room, lots of room to store suitcases and clothes. It was great to have the kitchen with refrigerator, stove and microwave. I was looking for affordable, near Grand Central, clean room, good service (didn't need room service), and got it all. Eastgate Tower Hotel is just off 2nd Avenue and about 12 mins walk to Empire State Building/5th Avenue. Very good location. No bar/restaurant but plenty within a few minutes walk of hotel and most serve good quality food. Staff were very obliging and friendly. Room, whilst a bit run down, was spacious and comfy and we had two queen beds for two people […] and a kitchenette that was so handy as we stayed during Hurricane Irene and we were able to cook and relax in our room. We stayed at Eastgate as it gave us extra space which was great to have when traveling with our 2 year old daughter. The staff were generally friendly and helpful but not necessarily trained too extensively. Our room was dated and although tidy it still felt like it needed a deep clean.

This is the second time we stayed at the Eastgate Towers. I am originally from NY so I like having a hotel that is more apartment NY friendly then staying in a large hotel. Rooms was clean, only problem my sleeper sofa dipped alot making it hard to sleep. My family & I enjoyed our 5 night stay at the Eastgate Tower. They offered all the amenities we needed to be comfortable while in the room. I have stayed at the Eastgate Towers before and like to stay here when I have a little bit longer stay in Manhattan than usual. The mini kitchen comes in handy when wanting to heat up something left over from the restaurant I had lunch at, or just to bring some take out back to the room in the evening. The neighborhood has plenty of restaurant options and is very close to Grand Central if you want to get around the city using the subway. The downside to this hotel is that there are only a few non-smoking floors. When I arrived this time around, the first room the gave me reeked of cigarettes. The staff was kind enough to accommodate my request for a room on a non-smoking floor. I guess if you are a smoker this hotel is great, if you are not a smoker be forewarned. We have been to NYC several times, and this hotel offered us the most bang for our buck. It's only 5 blocks from Grand Central, within walking distance of Times Square, and has many restaurants in the immediate area. The room is HUGE for NYC, and the kitchenette was great! The room was clean and adequately maintained. I never saw the first bug (including […] NYC's mascot, the cockroach) inside or outside. The staff was friendly and always helpful. My room was full of the smell of smoke - awful

First impressions were not great, the hotel looks a little tired from the outside, there was a courtyard area to the right of the building with aluminium tables and chairs that looked untidy and not looked after. The reception area was in need of refurbishment but the staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was a very good size with adequate room […] for me to work and the bed was very comfortable. The room was clean but again just looking a bit tired and in need of some TLC. the road outside was not noisy so I slept well and all in all I enjoyed my visit and would go back again. Let me start by saying that this is an excellent hotel -- excellent location, excellent room, cleanliness, comfort and everything else one would expect from a good hotel. I came expecting a good service based on previous reviews and I got them. However, would be better if: 1). Eastgate offers free wi-fi at their common spaces (i.e: lobbies/reception […] area). I was directed to a McDonald 2 minutes away with free wi-fi. Not highly inconvenient at all, but would be better if I didn't even have to walk out on the boiling heat to get a free wi-fi. 2).The hotel also doesn't offer free local calls, which I thought was odd. I've only been to a few hotels in my life so far, but Eastgate is the first one to not offer free local calls. 3). The furnishings are also more outdated than what was shown on the website, but they work just fine. Despite all 3 suggestions, my stay at the Eastgate was more than pleasant. My room was clean, spacious and the full-functioning kitchen was a nice addition, in case someone plans on dining in. Hotel was in a great location. A few blocks down from 5th ave. Grand Central was very close. Time Square and the UN were within walking distance. The hotel room looked like a converted apartment. Walking distance to some of the main landmarks is undeniable advantage of this hotel. Our room was decent size and hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The kitchenette was a plus especially for us with young children. Large room by NY standards. Dated furniture (Ex. old TV) but all very usable. Rm 9 F has mini-kitchen/corner room . Very good price for the accomodations. Recommended as it is close to Grand Central and many places to eat. Good value for the money
