Right on the river! Very comfortable and balcony on the river. A bit far from downtown to walk but close to the tram. Valet parking was expensive, other than that it was a great place to stay.

Ahh - what a great place. Love the room, the bedding, the balcony. The bath was great and I loved the bath products. Overall great stay. The beakfast was pretty good too, but only oatmeal is hot, the rest is pastries and fruit.

Checked in, assigned to a king room, for 4, but were immediately and without issue provided a double queen room. Comfy for our one night stay. Front desk and valets were awesome! wE will COME BACK!

the location was out of the way...the service and staff very nice and helpful. The restaurant was very mediocre and expensive...we didnt care for the food. the rooms definately were not 4 star....not in our estimation, anyway.

I love this hotel and have stayed here many times over the years. They are now under new management which seems to be good. The morning complimentary breakfast they provide is even better than before and you still have the option to use some of the spa facilities during your stay. It was a really fantastic experience for the price. The staff was great, and the room was very comfortable and clean which is important to us. The only drawback was the parking rate. It was a little expensive for parking a car.

One reason that I stay at Rivers Edge (formerly Avalon Hotel & Spa) is for the convenience of the continental breakfast right on your floor by the elevators. I could pad out in my slippers and comfy sweats to get coffe, etc. New management has done away with that and now you need to get presentably dressed and go to the first floor spa area for the […] breakfast. Also, more than 50 guests on my first full day there had no hot water!!!! That was fixed on the second day of my stay. The desks and some of the other furniture in the rooms need to be freshened up or replaced. I love the look of the rooms, but the desk tops are very worn looking. Still love the river view, but now the prices are going up!!!! So, i'm less happy because of the changes by management and had to pay more for the room. This hotel is off the beaten path a little bit, but it is very close to Portland's excellent public transportation system, which is easy to use and very affordable. Another plus is the continental breakfast... it's not your typical food. The spread includes home-made baked treats (the banana bread was more moist than my mother's!) and a delicious house-made […] granola filled with nuts and dried fruit. We loved the fact that the breakfast is available right at the elevators on every floor, so it's easy to pop out to the table for another cup of coffee or a glass of orange juice and pop back into your room. Hotel staff were really nice. BUT $20/day to park and you can't park your own car. No microwave or refrigerator. Furnishings a bit shabby for the price (worn desk, end tables badly repainted) Breakfast was OK but nothing hot and all carbs. I would stay there again but wouldn't pay full rates. Didn't use the spa facilities so I can't speak to that.

My husband and I have stayed at many hotels and I have to say this was the most comfortable and peaceful place yet. The rooms were spacious, clean, and quiet. We had the hill side view that overlooked downtown Portland, probably not as pretty as the river view but we were pleased. Don't like the fact they charge for parking ($19/night) when many other hotels don't charge. The hotel is also off the beaten path, south of downtown, with a 5 minute walk you are at the rail. I was by myself during the day and felt safe walking to the rail (the path isn't appealing to the eye). Also, no free shuttle/limo to and from airport. Overall, I give it 4.5 stars out of 5. We live in Federal Way, WA and wanted to go to Portland for a long weekend getaway.Through process of elimination on Expedia, we ended up booking a riverside king at River's Edge Hotel and Spa. It was one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, our room had a balcony overlooking the river, the bathrooms […] are huge, and the decor is stylish without being stuffy. Did I mention continental breakfast on every floor? With fresh pastries and homemade granola? Yes, please! I suggest you make the coffee in your room though, because it's much better than the stuff at the breakfast bar. We got a couples massage at the spa that was wonderful, and Aquariva is a fantastic bar and restaurant. We spent several nights eating our way through the happy hour menu and every single dish was great. The staff in the hotel, the spa, and the restaurant were all really helpful and friendly. I've seen people complain about the valet parking in other reviews, but we didn't have one problem with it the entire time. This was a great place to stay. We stayed overnight in Portland after going to a Blazer game. This even included a free breakfast. No mater where you park in Portland, you have to pay for parking (around $19). It's close to downtown and around 15 min from the Rose Quarter. The beds were nice also.

Spa was amazing. This is the perfect hotel to stay at durring a stressful business trip. Parking costs $19 per day, which is so absurd. The price of the hotel is enough they should adleast include parking.

Very helpful and friendly staff. It is convenient to be able to walk to catch the light rail train to go downtown to restaurants and shopping. Breakfast each morning is a nice feature. Spa visit was lovely.

I was upgraded to a river view room which was very nice. The room was large, comfortable and clean. As other reviewers have noted, the $19 valet parking requirement is outrageous. You can park within a few blocks for free however. There is an out of business athletic club with a large parking lot if you take the first right turn after you turn off Macadams […] Ave. Also, the hotel has zero sound proofing but if noise doesn't bother you, the rooms are otherwise quite nice. The breakfast was very good although it was all carbohydrates. Coffee was good. I got a rate of $80 through hotels.com. Not sure I'd book at much higher rates since this hotel is a bit out of the way and you have to drive everywhere. My only disappointment was the valet charge. At check-up, I was NOT told that I would have to pay for any valet service fee. At check-out, they tried to charge me $19.99 / day for parking, which to me is ridiculous. I already paid for the rooms upon booking and finding out about extra fees made me very upset. The only positive that came out of it was the manager waiving the fees for me. If it wasn't for that, I definitely would be unhappy with this hotel. Will I stay there again? the hotel and room and staff were amazing, the only reason why I would decrease the hotel rating overall is the location. it's not a convienient location if you're a new visitor to portland and want to be close to activities and food. there is a street car station close by about half a block away that takes you into town, but honestly you have to walk […] along a the river path or the bike path (beside the train tracks) and if it's dark at night it's kind of spooky and empty. Very industrial area. We cabbed at night most of the time, cabs are easy to call but they're not cheap. Taking the train and transferring to the street car from the airport to the hotel was at least an hour, but if you took the cab it would be at least 50 bucks. So if you're a group of friends or young couple looking to explore portland, the location is not great. The River's Edge is a beautiful hotel located right on the Willamette River just south of downtown Portland. The location is convenient to downtown without the noise of the city, and public transit is a 3-4 minute walk from the hotel entrance. My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights to visit our son who lives in d/t Portland. First, the location, while close to d/t, is more than a hassle to get to. The room was okay. NOTHING special and the decorum was outdated. Bed was lumpy. Our "mountain view" room on the third floor consisted of the heating and air conditioning units running loudly, […] day and night. No view whatsoever. The only parking option is valet at $19 per day. The valet staff were the only friendly, helpful people there. The valet parking, however, is a joke! The parking lot is 5 strides from the front door. No stairs, just straight to the parking lot. You pull up, they take your car about 10 feet and then, naturally, expect a tip. We came and went so many times, it was crazy to literally watch the guy walk to your car with your keys and then drive up to the curb. I could have done that in half the time and saved a lot of money! The kicker was that the hotel is currently bank owned. The name of the items in the hotel say "The Avalon", but it's River's Edge? A boutique hotel it is not. They claim to offer a "late night" menu (11 p.m. - 7 am) Great right? We called the front desk at 10:15, he informed us that the lat night menu is not avail. until 11 pm (in their defense, that is clearly stated) but that we can still order from the restaurant until then.
