SilverOaks Hotel On Thorndon - Wellington

This hotel met my expectations. . It was good value for money and staff were helpful. The room was comfortable and warm on a freezing night outside with basic needs provided for, including room service with a smile. However there was no cable tv, contrary to the information on this website.

Room was very ordinary and musty smelling. Looks like it needs recarpeting, cupboards were broken, bathroom was a disgrace. Only for the location, I would not return.

We did not stay. In fact we were so disgusted by the rooms and the service we checked out and booked in to another hotel. When we went up to our room it was to find that we had been given the wrong room. I booked a queen bed + a single and was given 3 singles. A window had been left open, so thankfully there was no smell. The ceilings were covered in […] mold, as was the bathroom. We then asked for another room with the correct beds, upon entering this room we came across a very unpleaseant smell, like an extreme damp smell. This rooms celing was also was covered in mold, as was the bathroom. The bath was so bad I wouldn't have been suprised if the bath fell through the floor! A survey form was left by the previous occupants whom also stated how unsatisfactory their stay was, not a good sign for incoming occupants to find. Upon checking out the reception staff did not offer an apology of any sort, just accepted our check out without any comment at all. The internet was very misleading when I booked, know wonder the price was to good to be true. If a hotel had been refurbished in 2007 then whomever did it did a terrible job! I cannot even mark upon the convenience or surrounding neighbourhood as we did not end up staying. I will certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will be applying for a full if not partial refund. Przeczytaj więcej

The hotel was convenient to the city for us Auckland tourists, its not the Ritz but was suitable and what we expected. It was always clean and tidy and the staff were polite.

Don't go here if you expect a clean room with clean bedding, or a room that is secure (I returned one day to find my door wide open!) The breakfast is ok- toast and cereal. The fire alarm went off three times in my two night stay, which is unfortunate if you want lots of sleep.

The Hotel is of very good quality services, good clean, comfort and the location is convenient but only need serious maintenance, the carpet is too old, bathrooms taps need attention. Regards.

What can I say, big holes in the blankets sheets so thin you can read a paper through them and if you like mould there was lots of it.

This hotel is in a great location. Our room smelled very musty and, although they sprayed the room to freshen it up a bit, the smell returned. No other complaints at all.

Feel we cannot complain as we picked this hotel on price and location to our function. The room was as we expected based on the price we paid. Also picked it as low storey, on the flat with earthquake risk in mind. However, once we got inside found it to be of great concern if an earthquake had happened. Stayed during NZ international arts festival and came for research in Wellingtons archives. Conveniently located close to city & buses. Convenient prices. All basic conveniences for a comfortable home away from home. Nothing fancy but for what I paid I wouldnt expect fancy. Housekeeping was excellent, friendly & thoughtful. Thanks for everything Liz.. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel's entrans. There is the entrance to the Botanical Garden opposite the hotel and only 10 minutes to the Cable Car. There are a few restorantrs 5 min walk from the hotel but hotel itself serves meals for the very reasonable prices.

The hotell is very very well located neighbourinb the Botanic Garden, a wonderful place tol visit. It is easily accesible from the city center. Price is very good. Rooms are spaceous enough. But avoid the resturant.

After the poor reviews I had seen of this place I was expecting the worst but it surprised us. Yes, it is all a bit dated and the carpet smells fusty when you first go into the lobby but very well equipped, comfortable rooms, perfectably acceptable breakfast (cereals and toast and coffee) and friendly, helpful staff. i am satisfied with hotel but only the bed sheet is tidy.other wise rest of service is very good.and in future i will come to wellington i want to stay in SilverOaks Hotel On Thorndon.room decoration is awesome.

Although this hotel was clean and cheap it sadly needs a refurbish. One of our windows did not shut properly. We could not get a satisfactory television reception. It was not very soundproof at 2.30am from room above ours, if you get my drift.

Very good location. Staff very helpful. Great value for money.

This place is falling apart at the seams, no hot water this morning. Internet is patchy and was told by front desk that it's pot luck. If you want more privacy than a backpackers then this is your place. If you want comforts you'll be disappointed.

Overall this hotel was great value for money. I stayed here for 4 nights and only found out when checking out that breakfast was included. So I bought my own breakfast in vain on 3 mornings even though I asked about it to the receptionist on check-in.

I have staid there many times because of its situation and very low rates. It is very basic in what it offers, but is clean and the staff are friendly. Some tissues in the bathroom would be welcome and some biscuits on the tea tray! A budget hotel in a convenient position and across the road are those wonderful Botanic Gardens!

We stayed at the SilverOaks because of the rates and the location. We were happy overall but the place needs upgrading to keep in line with technology. Plasma and LCD TV's have been around a long time now and yet we had some box TV that was about 15 years old. The staff were great and the cleaning was fine. We have stayed here twice recently and have found that it represents very good value for money. The car parking is worth it's weight in gold as most central Wellington hotels charge you anything up to $25.00 per day for parking. The proximity to the Botanic Gardens is also a bonus as Lambton Quay is a very pleasant 30 minute walk away - and for the […] less energetic a walk to the cable car is a must for the views and the ride. Hotel was in a convenient area for our needs but is in need of some TLC. Fabric and linen, towels etc have seen better days but were clean. Hotel had a previous name and this is still showing on the outside of the building which was confusing when trying to find the hotel.

Room was not what was booked, No TV remote, Only 3 tv channels, No sky or freeview, Only one bed in the room, Was ment to be 2. This probably used to be a nice hotel, but it has been allowed to become a little rundown, service is on the whole below par, my room was not even cleaned one day, it was never vacuumed, there were crumbs on the floor. The hotel was located in a GREAT location. The Botannical Gardens are right across the street. It was very quiet. Local Embassies were not too far away and it was a beautiful walk to the water from here (if you dont mind walking that is). arriving in town late and heading out early the next morning we were looking for a bed for the night that was both cheap and comfortable.....the room was small and dated but at a great price it suited our needs perfectly

The hotel location is right by bus services and opposite the Botanical gardens. The hotel is in a tired state in regards it needs a makeover. It was fine as we only slept there and were busy in the days. But a good deal for what it was, many thanks. If you are on low budget and you have seen it all ;), this is actually pretty good if you consider the location and price. I wouldn't book if for honeymoon but if you are looking for place to crash couple nights and ready to change room if you find something disturbing, its ok.

the worst hotel I met in three weeks travelling around NZ. Too expensive, but too old as well.

I consider the room to 'worth the money". It is situated in a quiet neibourhood in quite accessible to all important places of interest. I will recimment this Hotel to my friends. Simple but satisfactory Breakfast.

This hotel needs a complete maintenance and refurbishment, -but it is in a peaceful and pleasant location at the gates of Wellington's magnificent Botanical Gardens. The staff are friendly and helpful within their means and the price is ok (as long as you dont book direct). It was a basic hotel but at a basic price. Botanical gardens right opposite, shops & resturants nearby in a nice urban village. Within 20 minute walking distance of the city centre or walk up through the gardens & take the cable car down the hill to the city. Situated on a fairly main road but little traffic at night so was quiet. Stayed for two nights and was very happy with the hotel it is a little outdated but is still a quiet and comfortable place to stay

Goodmorning I am a rep stay in alot of hotels/motels in a year , i have limited funds and look for good value for money this hotel ticks the boxes >it is old and needs a revamp but at the price you are selling at is OK What other hotels do you have throughout the NorthIsland at the same pricing

it makes no pretence but while the fixtures and fittings are a little tired we found the staff obliging and helpful the main room was roomy and although bathroom a little cramped everything was clean and with comfortable beds the dining area was very tidy very convenient location for traversing wellington and ample free parking

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Coming from Whangarei the resteraunt was a little cold and not highly used. The bedroom was perfecty adaquate for such a small cost. The location was perfect. I could walk down to Lampton Quay through the Rose Gardens and take the cable car to the top of the gardens and then have a lovely walk down through the […] Botanical gardens. We were happy with the room but felt hotel itself could do with a spruce up, especially the dining area and menu. It is a reasonable cheap and comfortable place to stay however and handy to city and attractions if you enjoy a bit of walking, as we do.
