Location.
Overlooking the Neptune Fountain and its quiet plaza, the Westin Palace lies opposite the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums and is two blocks from the Reina Sofia Art Centre. Just 1.5 kilometres from the hotel is the Filmoteca Nacional showing a rich choice of art house cinema, including matinee performances and original language versions.
Hotel Features.
The palatial hotel was built in 1912 on the former site of the palace of the Duke and Duchess of Medinaceli. The entrance hall, decorated with murals of Italian Renaissance gardens, leads through to Rotunda Hall which is crowned with an Art Nouveau glass dome. Dining options include international and Spanish dishes at the informal La Rotonda, and Chinese cuisine at Asia Gallery. Set in the most dramatic room of the hotel, the Palace Bar is dominated by an Art Nouveau stained-glass dome with flower motif, from which a large chandelier is suspended. Cocktails, and a choice of over 700 wines from the adjoining cellar, are served here, and live piano music is played for afternoon tea.
The 18 meeting rooms and banquet lounges are soundproofed and equipped with microphones and audio-visual systems. Some of the rooms are wood-panelled with Venetian chandeliers, and all benefit from natural daylight. The business centre adjacent to the front desk has telephone and fax services, high-speed Internet access (surcharge), telephone booths, and a meeting area. Club Neptuno fitness centre is open round the clock and offers rooftop views across the Buen Retiro Park. There are around 20 cardiovascular machines, free weights, a sauna, and a sunbed, and massage treatments are available. Beauty treatments including facials, massage, manicure and pedicure, are available on the sixth floor, and a small hairdressing salon is located on the second floor.

The 466 guestrooms are decorated in Belle Epoque style and include plush Heavenly Beds, air conditioning, Internet connections, digital phones, and marble bathrooms with anti-mist mirrors, bathrobes, and slippers.

Cocktails (particularly dry martinis or a choice from over 700 wines in the adjoining cellar) are enjoyed day long by guests firmly ensconsed in the green-leather armchairs or navy-blue divans. Musicals, hotels, shops and restaurants make the Gran Via a rich vein of entertainment, finishing in the east with the black dome of the Metropolis building. Westwards, the grand Plaza Mayor was once the site of inquisitions and executions, but is now mostly visited for its terrace cafes.

The best experience. Very well located, friendly staff, a very classy hotel.

After a long transatlantic flight it was great to be in a comfortable, well run, hotel but it did not meet the 5-star standard, at least for me. No pool or hot tub, no in-room coffee, very little (visible) bell service. Concierge was acceptable, nothing special. The check-in reception staff was quite helpful and when we requested an adjoining room with […] our teenage kids and they went out of our way to find us one and even had out bags moved there for us. Unfortunately the doors between the rooms were double locked and there was no way for us to open them (from either room) without keys (which were no where to be found). We were so tired by the time we were going to bed that we didn't even bother to call the front desk for help locating the keys. Oh well, our kids didn't mind their extra privacy :) Let me close with two positive comments about the hotel: it was very elegant and historic looking, nicely maintained AND the location just across the street from the famous PRADO art museum was really wonderful. Exceeded expectations!!! Superb hotel
This hotel has an excellent location near all the major museums. The lobby was fantastic. Had a premium room but it was a little small for the room charge. The hotel was beautiful. I expected more of the staff for places to go, making reservations, etc. They seemed somewhat irritated. There was a a "SCHEDULED" protest by the citizens of Spain. "Above and Beyond in Madrid"
Aside from all of the usual fabulous hotel amenities, the Westin Palace in Madrid went above and beyond during our stay. My son was ill with a fever, they had a doctor at our room within a half an hour. On our trip to Spain my husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Westin Palace in Madrid. We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful room and the great location. I highly recommend this hotel to whomever is visiting Madrid. We stayed in the Junior Suite, which was huge with a living room, a 1 1/2 bathroom, a huge bedroom and a walking closet. Our view […] was of the Church across the street and a pretty alley. When we walked in I was so in awe of the beautiful decor and the complementary plate of fruit waiting for us. The bathroom was big with a separate shower and tub. The hotel is gorgeous in the best location in town. The Prado museum is 2 minutes away behind the building, the Nuptune Fountain faces the building and all tourist spots are walking distance that we never needed to use public transportation. The staff was friendly and very helpful, we never got to use room service, but ate at the hotel restaurant and the food was amazing. I recommend trying the Minestrone soup. The only cons is that internet was not complementary and there was some construction or remodeling going on so we heard odd noises in the morning, but not loud enough to wake us up. "Great location"
The location is perfect and the hotel is quite lovely. Plenty of great places to eat nearby, as the hotel is very pricey for food. The concierge was very helpful in providing a quick overview of the streets nearby and with two of the best museums write there....tough to beat. A fantastic stay.

Very nice sophisticated hotel in the middle of all facilities. The only negative comments are that they charged for Internet in the room (WiFi) and no possibility to make tea or coffee in room. After all, this is a five star hotel!

"Good Location But Not Great Value"
This is a nice hotel -- not exceptional, but nice, in a good location. The pluses -- beautiful lobby area, comfortable beds, windows that open (although road is not very quiet), nice bathrooms. The negatives -- sparse amenities for a Westin (very skimpy on towels for some reason!, turndown service only on request, no inroom or lobby coffee, etc), VERY […] expensive to consume anything on premises from a drink, to breakfast to internet service -- Sunday brunch was over 70 euros per person, while weekday breakfast was maybe half that price. All the ingredients for a great hotel are there, but there was a serious flaw. Wi-Fi costs 6 Euro an hour or 20 Euro a day. It is bad enough to be charging outrageous rates for something most hotels provide free. But it is worse that access can be purchased for only one computer per room--so if you are a couple with two smart phones like we were, one […] of you gets to do without. And worse yet, the system did not work at all with our iPhones. In fairness, after much hassle the hotel did get both of our phones on line with a secret code, and did not charge us during our stay. But that was only after three trips to the front desk on three separate days and way too much haggling. Note to Westin: charging for Wi-Fi in this day and age is bound to be generating far more ill will than revenue. It's time to ditch that policy. "Westin Palace Hotel - close to allmust see sights"
The Westin is located close to all attractions - the museums, the old city, the big shoping streets, fun bars, restaurants and cafes. The room was very silent and comfortable. The single problem was the cold bathroom and toilet, which were freezing and could not be warmed.

The Palace is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful neighborhood -- walking distance to the Prado and many other must-see sights. The service was excellent, and the staff courteous and efficient. I would highly recommend this hotel.

AC not functinoning properly.One night too hot and the other too cold. After 1 hour 30 minutes of waiting in the room without maintanance showing, the front desk staff said "We have 500 rooms and only one maintance working" with no manager or even assistance manager on duty." We have stayed here before. There were loose floor tiles in the bathroom, also its door was damaged and some of the painting had chipped away. The hotel was in a great location! Directly across from the Prado Museum and located within walking distance to all of the City Center, including the Gran Villa. The Westin Palace was a perfect hotel choice to end a long journey through Italy and Spain. The conceirge was helpful with recommendations and reservations. Our favorite Restaurant recommendation was the Corral De La Moreria Flamenco- Restaurant.
