The Whitney Hotel is a little older and in need of furniture updates and remodeling which they are working on. The towels and linens were very nice. ABSOLUTELY GREAT RATES AT THIS HOTEL. ROOM WAS CLEAN AND SUITE WAS VERY SPACIOUS.

The price for a one bedroom suite was at a great price. The entire hotel need a new makeover. The furniture is old and marked. Televisons are old and need to be updated. There is an old musty smell in the hallways. It is definitely in need of renovations. I will not stay there again until improvements are made.

Nice big rooms. Good breakfast. Only 5 minutes to Fort Jackson. Had a nice stay.

We were very disappointed in the hotel overall. It was a nice hotel, but it is very old and needs updated. The pool was filthy and would not have tried to swim in it. The one bathroom had not been cleaned and it was obvious.

My family was there for a military graduation at Ft. Jackson. This hotel was only about 10 minutes from the Fort. Super service and facility. The rooms were amazing and we can't wait to stay here again! The only thing I would have changed was to have the whirlpool tub in the master suite working. If you don't mind consignment type furniture with dings and scrapes, and prefer solid woods over pressboard crap at other hotels, that will make your stay feel somewhat unique. Linens seemed like a standard hotel, i.e., shower curtains, towels, beds, etc. The balcony was a great feature, as well as the layout of the suites; we had a double room with […] the living room between the bedrooms, which was ideal for having a small party after our HS reunion late in the night. Kitchen appliances were antiquated, but added to our perception of a vintage feel. The pool was less than "luxury", as the website's description states it is. The Whitney provided me with two bedrooms and a kitchen at an unbelievably good rate, I would recommend it for the travelor who needs more room and wishes to eat some meals in his or her room.

I have stayed here a few times when needing to be in the Columbia area. It's such a great price for a suite in such a convenient location. I've always had a clean, comfortable room, quiet surroundings, and no problems while there. Wonderful value, especially for the 2BR/2BA suites I get when I have a friend or colleague with me on the trip!

The exterior of the hotel, the lobby, and the breakfast area look wonderful. The room was in poor condition. It looked like it hosted many frat parties. Beat up furniture, walls, and bathroom fixtures. I'm not sure the room was that clean. Sliding door to balcony did not lock. I was not aware maid service had to be requested and although I did request, […] maid service did not happen. this worked out great because the room had 2 separate bedrooms so my parents had one and my husband and i had one, it was cheaper than getting 2 regular rooms at any other hotel, and there is a great restaurant just a block away called dianes on devine, great food and service

Travelling with another couple, this 2-bedroom, 2-bath suite worked out great and the price was great! The place is pleasant despite a few minor things in the rooms that need attention by maintenance. Though the facility is 100% non-smoking, you won't want a room near one of the entrances where all the smokers convene!

This was a business trip for me: I'm a football coach--but I brought my family along to enjoy the attractions of Columbia during my business meetings. Yes, the hotel was older; yes, it was equipped with older furniture, and the old-style televisions, and yes, the dated wall-paper was peeling in some spots....BUT... the staff was exceptional and the […] rooms were comfortable, and the full kitchen was well-equipped. Without exception, every member of the staff was polite, friendly, cheerful and responsive to every need my family and I had. This included helping to get my family to the attractions while I had our car out on business meetings. They shuttled my entire family to the zoo (and back) with the hotel's complimentary limosine. I firmly believed the employees were happy to be part of that staff and that they genuinely respected the guests and each other, and that they like working there. The only recommendation I would make to the staff is that they survey the beds and make sure that every one gets a newer, more comfortable matress. I tend to be a rather light sleeper, and this was aggrivated by the hard bed in my room. I had a two room suite. One of the two rooms had a new, plush mattress...the other bed's mattress (mine) was a little too hard. I gave the more comfortable bed to the elderly relative I was traveling with. The hard bed in my room is the only meaningful criticizm I have of the place, but it wasn't so bad to keep me from coming back. Finally, let me say that the hotel's size is perfect: Not to small to be uncomfortable, or without amenities, but not so big that you can't get through the breakfast line in the morning. By the way, breakfast was excellent, and served by the most cheerful, sweet lady in the world. In closing let me say that the hotel's location was very convenient to everything I needed to get to. I recommend it strongly if you are doing business on Ft Jackson, or at the Universtiy. Whenever I am in Columbia from now on, this is Przeczytaj więcej

Beyond expectation for the price of the room. After walking around the hotel, Maintenance could use some attention. Other than that, my stay was exceptional. Very spacious rooms with lots of ammenities.

We were so impressed! From the time we were picked up at the airport in a complimentary stretch limo to our well appointed room. We couldn't have been happier for the money. We were extremely satisfied with our 1 bedroon room that was similar to a large apartment with a full kitchen. There was even a washer/dryer in our room, When we had to commute […] to the University of South Carolina we were able to get a complimentary ride in the Limo. The Whitney is our home away from. We stay there regularly when we visit our parents and are traveling to Charleston or the Beach. We entertain guests in our suite. An addded benefit is that we have the use of a washer and dryer in our suite.

It was such a pleasure to stay at a hotel with my three dogs and not be made to feel that I needed to sneak in and out with them! The surrounding neighborhood was a nice mixture of shaded residential areas with sidewalks and interesting shops and restaurants--made for nice walks with the dogs. The full kitchen was a bit outdated but everything worked and was certainly convenient to have. The beds were comfortable, towels were thick and fluffy, and the breakfasts were hot and plentiful. All personnel from the front desk, security, housekeeping, breakfast attendants, were cheerful, helpful, and accommodating. The Whitney hotel offers large full amenity rooms at reasonable prices. The rooms are old and could use a remodel but the price is right. The hallway had a very bad musty odor but our room was fine with no odors. Our room was reasonably clean but there were parts that were in need of extra care such as the exhaust fan in the bathroom. The Whitney is a nice hotel especially if you have a longer stay because the two-room suites come with a fully equipped kitchen and a sitting area for eating and watching TV. It is more like an apartment than a hotel. Their room service is catered from a restaurant across the street, which is good, but only til 10PM.

Our stay at The Whitney was comfortable, clean, and convenient. It was located right about in the center of where all our travel plans focused around so getting from place to place was a breeze. This was my second stay at The Whitney, Columbia, SC. If you like a hotel with a bit of class and nostalgia at a reasonable price try this one. My daughter is in school in South Carolina and my wife and I have had several trips to Columbia and usually stayed in one of the usual chains. This appears to be a "residence" hotel from an earlier time. Yes it could use some modernization and maybe a coat of paint here and there, but the one or two bedroom suites with all the amenities (equiped kitchen, dining area, washer/dryer, living room, balconey, two TVs and very comfortable beds) are very clean and very homey. The staff is super, buffet breakfast is as good as most of the competition and the price is reasonable considering the large amount of room space. The location of the hotel was very convenient but the condition of the hotel was not. It is definitely in need of an update and refurbishing.

My stay was just what I expected; everything went well for me. I had no problems. It was like being at home away from home. I would gladly stay there again.

Stayed at the Whitney for one night 7/8/10. Reservation in order, easy check in, friendly front desk staff. Room older, needs updating, but really needs attention to detail and cleaning. Only three hangers in closet. Sink stopper did not work, had to operate from below sink. Dirt under bed. Women's underwear in dresser drawer. Lots of scuff marks on […] wall, stains on furniture. Poor staff planning - family reunion in house, so lots of kids for breakfast. Pretty much out of everything at 8:45 - breakfast was scheduled for ending at 9:30. Great location. Friendly staff. The hotel met all of our needs. The maintenance man had to come and repair the toilet, but he was very nice, helpful and even made suggestions for sites around the area. An overall perfectly good stay.

This hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. We had an initial problem with one of the front desk staff giving a room key to someone he thought was staying in our room but wasnt. Luckily, I knew the person....

The room is like home, with a central living area and kitchen/dining attached with either one or two adjacent rooms and baths. We favor the two bedroom (though it can be pricey, especially on special event days at USC) because the living area is larger, given the different arrangement with the kitchen and utility rooms. The 2 BR also has a desk in the […] living area where the 1BR does not. Cannot beat the location in regard to USC. Close to great restaurants and pubs, great staff and clean, comfortable rooms. Fully stocked kitchen, with roomy suites. Perfect for families and business travel.

A little off the beaten path. $35 cab ride from airport. the hotel will pick up the tab, must remember to bring the driver into the hotel front desk.
