This place is in a great location in the middle of the city but feels like it's out in the country. From our room we could only really see an unlandscaped forest like green space with a creek. Pretty amazing when you consider where you are. The service was top notch as well as friendly and helpful. The spa facility and pool area are absolutely incredible […] with any kind of activity that I could want. Self parking is a little clumsy and difficult to navigate from the garage to the lobby. Not bad but not great. This is one of the best hotels I've ever seen and may be my favorite. The only downside was an overwhelming air freshener perfume smell in parts of the hallways as well as the stairs going to the parking garage. There was a staffing issue curbside at checkout. There were 2 guys trying to load and unload cars at peak time. There probably should have been at least 6. We were lucky and only had to wait about 10 minutes. Some waited much longer. I think the facility is very good. You avoid the Galleria traffic which can be a major hassel. The fitness facility is one of best in the country and there is no charge. The food service at the club is very reasonably priced and the service is good. Unfortunately, the housekeeping staff and guests speak too loudly in the corridors. After a mixup with my reservation (which was Not the hotel's fault), the staff at The Houstonian went above and beyond in making my stay exceptional. This hotel is first class all the way with a great spa, fantastic walking trail, wonderful gym and great food. I can't wait to go back.

It was just fine. the place is sprawlingly Texas-sized large and access by foot was difficult because of some construction. it is a really nice place, though. a bit too traditional in style for my taste, but then again, it's Texas - not necessarily known for cutting edge design

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Outstanding service. The rooms are a little bit old. The bathroom tub wasn't particularly fancy. The facilities are outstanding. Overall, a great stay. Compared to the omni, which is close by, I would say the rooms are inferior but the facilities and service are far superior.

This hotel never disappoints. I brought a large group of people to the hotel to celebrate my son's birthday and all my guest loved the hotel. The most comfortable rooms and excellent service. On teh weekends the hotel is uauslly packed with wedding parties, so plenty of people around having fun.

I often travel to Houston, and hands down the Houstonian is my hotel of choice. I suppose it depends on what your needs are and whether or not you need to be close to a certain area. The Houstonian is tucked away just north of the Galleria and Post Oak shopping areas. It is somewhat wooded, so it feels like you are secluded although you are in the middle […] of the city. I love the spa and the fitness facility--state of the art. Olivette's lemon blueberry waffle is to die for and The Bar makes the best skinny margarita, There are running trails, outdoor swimming, and lots of quiet areas to just sit and relax. The Hotel is old but has been renovated. The service was great, room service, swimming pools, helpfulness. Our only complaint is that the parking garage is somewhat of a maze from your room. The lodge feel in the wooded setting is lovely....the staff friendly and attentive, but not obtrusive, the restaurant excellent, and the bar cozy and welcoming....a great place for a week-end couples outing.

I have stayed n the Houstonian before and it was looking tired. I was very glad to see that the rooms had been refurbished to a really good standard. Service was always good and is still so now. I would stay there again.

I have stayed at the Houstonian many, many times and it never fails to please. It is an oasis in the middle of a chaotic city. Gorgeous setting and landscaping. Great food and welcoming and efficient staff. The only problem I have ever encountered there is the service in the bar. Could be much better.

This is a nice place with varying degrees of service... From excellent to good. At times the doorman and valet were there, at others not. (And I noted that on more than one occasion, and then it matters who it is with the level of service.) My sister booked a corner room, which was much larger than ours. Tenis is a great hotel that works for either families, business or couples. The club installations are great for exercising (huge gym), and there are some amenities for kids (climbing wall, labyrinth, and outside games for toddlers. There are a number of classes (cant talk about quality since we sadly did not have time for it) yoga, basketball, tennis, […] etc... Very complete. The restaurant is high quality as well and the service is friendly. Spa installations are very nice and complete, the service was great and my wife enjoyed it a lot. A bit pricy, but well deserved. My two daughters (4 and 6) stayed at the Houstonian over Christmas and it was great. Very friendly staff and the holiday decor was spectacular. Access to the Houstonian workout facilities and pools makes it that much better. All the pools were heated perfectly. Definitely recommend

Houstonian is a classic hotel; it is elegant, some might think it is stuffy. I went just before Christmas and the decorations were awesome. The room was very nice and the facilities Health Club and Pools are great; wish I was there with more time to enjoy them. If you like contemporary design this is not the place for you.

Whilst I'd say that this hotel is well preserved for one of the few older style hotels in Houston, it does need much more TLC in the rooms and corridors. When walking around the hotel my senses were assaulted by horrid chemical air fresheners pumping through the air conditioning system. This was so bad it made me choke! In our room, there was a strong […] smell of what I can only compare to sweaty feet - and NOT ours! $15+tax for self parking was a bit of a liberty too!!!!! Wouldn't' go for this one again. The hotel is very nicely appointed with excellent amenities. We stayed over the thanksgiving weekend and were very happy with the room, the service, and the spa. We will be staying there again on our next trip to Houston. I would highly recommend The Houstonian to anyone looking for a hotel.

relatively inexpensive hotel with one of best hotel gyms in the country. BUT - they use chemical and artificially fragrant air fresheners and carpet cleaners to such an extent that it is impossible to breathe. As someone who tries to keep my environment healthy, I can no longer stay at this hotel

I believe the security at this hotel is not adequate. There is open access to the parking garage. I was followed from the garage to a secured floor by an individual. This was reported. They were not staying at the hotel.
