Hotel Features.
Designed by Deborah Berke, who blueprinted Calvin Klein's stores in the 1990s, The James Chicago features concise colors with a focus on intricate textures throughout the lobby. Locals flock to David Burke's Primehouse, a Chicago-style steakhouse serving Kentucky Creekstone Farms beef, dry-aged with Himalayan salt bricks lining the restaurant cellar. The adjoining J Bar lounge adorns the south end of Rush Street's nightlife. Banquet dining for up to 220 guests is accommodated in the hotel's 7,000 square feet of event space. An on-site complimentary business center is equipped with fax, photocopy and print services and wireless Internet service is available throughout the hotel. Copies of both the Chicago Tribune and USA Today are complimentary at the 24-hour front desk.
A 2,500-square-foot exercise center toting design influenced by the founder of Equinox Fitness Clubs includes cardiovascular equipment, advanced weight systems and seasoned personal trainers available by appointment. Spa treatment rooms within the facility offer rejuvenating facials and relaxing massage therapies. In-room restorative treatments are available upon request. The James Chicago also offers personal assistance services and 24-hour complimentary concierge services. Pets are pampered with the Pooch Spa Service, Primehouse Pet Menu, outerwear and training.

Piękny, świetnie utrzymany hotel, czyściutki i bardzo komfortowy. Znajduje się praktycznie w samym centrum, świetne połączenie komunikacyjne. W okolicy same markowe sklepy. Jeśli nie chce się korzystać z restauracji w hotelu, to trzeba odbyć spacer do nieco odległych sklepów czy restauracyjek. Ogólnie okolica bardzo przyjemna.

JBar - Signature cocktails served in an intimate setting. The design incorporates plasma screens displaying video as art. Food is also provided by David Burke's Primehouse.
The hotel's 2,500-square-foot fitness center offers state-of-the-art cardio and weight equipment. Cardio machines feature individual TVs. Personal-training sessions are available for a surcharge.
The James is located in the heart of The Magnificent Mile -- home to the best of Chicago's dining, nightlife and, of course, shopping.
The Ohio Street Beach along Lake Michigan is about a mile east of the hotel. Guests who enjoy running, walking, bicycling, or in-line skating should bring their gear for exercising along the 20-mile lakefront path. Bicycles and in-line skates are available for rent at several beachfront locations. During summer months, lifeguards are on duty. "Horrible stay at this Hotel."
My wife and I stayed at tis hotel for three nights. The concierge and doormen are excellent personnel. What was the problem? The second night there was a party in our adjacent room. The noise was unbearable. My wife called twice to the lobby; however, they did nothing. At around 2 or 3 in the morning I called the lobby extremely angry and the excuse […] was the personnel didn't hear the noise outside the door, but knocked at the door and told the party to vacate the room. We had almost no sleep at all. Next day I went to complain to the manager and even told her my wife was pregnant. Plus this is a +4 star hotel. Her answer was unbelievable and uncomprehending telling me she would send a cookie to the room. Again, hotel is well located. Price is not cheap, but not overpriced. "Great Value"
The James was a great place and at a good price for downtown Chicago. High quality amenities and excellent staff. The only complaint would be a slow service for breakfast but the rest of the stay was excellent.

I had been several times in Chicago, and I have to say that this isone of the best hotels I have stayed. It's located in a great zone, you can walk to everywhere (lake, michigan avenue, etc). This is my second time staying at the James Chicago. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating. Great location right off of the "Magnificent Mile". Also very conveniently located across the street from a Trader Joe's.

The hotel is in a great location. however, the hotel needs a make over. The internet service is almost non-existent, even in the lobby. Our room had thread-bare carpet and the seams of the carpet were coming apart. One night there was a person playing the saxophone on the street close to mid night. I called the front desk to see if anything could be […] done and was told by the person on duty that they could call the police but it really wouldn't help, that we should just wait and he will eventually stop. Hotel Staff was really attentive. Lobby room were nice and clean. The gym was great, not what I expect in a hotel. I will stay here again
Hotel needs to be remodeled. The room we had had the carpet separating at the seems, and was threadbare. The mattress was very soft and lumpy. The internet service was almost nonexistent with spotty service in the room and extremely slow service in the lobby. When the staff was asked why so slow they did not have an answer. One of the nights during […] our stay a person was playing a saxophone outside the building near midnight. I called the front desk and asked if something could be done to stop the music. The front desk staff told me that they could call the police but probably would not help and I just needed to wait until he decided to stop playing. You will not get a better location than this hotel. Rooms are nice but nothing has been done to make them particularly cozy. The bed was great. Bath products were terrible so remember to bring your own shampoo etc. The front desk was very sweet and helpfull. Our safe broke and we asked for it to be fixed twice without any success. We were given a late […] check out without having to pay extra. The restaurant was not good so we went other places for breakfast and dinner. I love The James. Clean, crisp white, well-laid out rooms. Also the lobby bar area is inviting and comfortable. As a frequent guest at the hotel I have one complaint. The room service menu is not great. It includes a lot of heavy food and few light, smaller options. However, the biggest problem is that it has been UNCHANGED in over a year. Same old […] choices. I often stay at the James Chicago because of the excellent location, service, and amenities. However, the rooms, while clean and well designed, could use with some updates in terms of furniture and TV.

The rooms at The James are a bit on the small side, with awkward layouts, but the styling and comfortable bed more than make up for those minor shortcomings. The in-room bar was well stocked, but didn't have a price list. The king size bed was the best I've slept on, and the minimal design of the sleeping area made for great relaxation. I must definitely eat steak in my underwear in the comfort of my own room again in the future. Front desk staff was efficient; not warm and friendly but not outright rude either. Housekeeping and the Guest Request team were delightful though. The biggest negative was the cost of valet parking at $52/day! Though after researching the area it's something that can't be avoided. "the James Chicago - excellent service"
Third time here, great location and what really makes it is the fantastic attitude of the staff from door men to duty managers. I felt really welcomed and looked after there and have already booked a return visit. I would highly recommend whether you are travelling for business or pleasure.

If you like a contemporary look and feel, The James would be okay for you. Our TV had a line through it (minor detail, but annoying). We also did not have our water carafe refilled after the first day. The concierge was very nice and accommondating. We were under the assumption that you could self-park in the hotel's garage as well, and this was not […] the case. Overall not good, not bad. The James was a great hotel from the service, atmosphere, location, cleanliness and finally the price! They have a fun lobby bar and seating that is a great way to start and end your evening. We walked everywhere and would stay at the hotel again. 5 star hotel at a 4 star price.
