Overall, a great hotel in a good part of town. Pros: Large rooms (king superior). Don't worry about the shower water flooding the bathroom as some reviewers suggest, it's not that big of an issue and they had installed some stripping to prevent. Great bar and lobby area. Comfortable bed. Rooftop bar is fun, and turns into a club on Saturday nights. […] Staff was nice and helpful, no issues there. Cons: Pool deck breakfast is a joke. It's fruit, coffee and a few packaged muffins. Not worth the cost. Didn't try breakfast buffet but it may be better. Neighbourhood was great. Hotel room was really small but clean. Elevators didn't work properly which was a nuisance. Staff was not very helpful.

The bathroom smelled dirty. We had to move to another room. The bellman Mike was very nice and they made our stay very comfortable. The breakfast that Expedia provided was so so.

The hotel has an amazing rooftop pool deck. The lounge inside is beautiful. The room size is the standard size of most NYC hotels. Overall I would definitely stay there again and I have recommended it to others!

The Empire is out go-to hotel in New York. The location next to Lincoln Square, Columbus Circle, and Central Park cannot be beat. Easy to get a taxi and there are restaurants to dine outside right across the street. The Starbucks and 24-hour-drug store around the corner were useful. The bar provides a quick bite before a show and I'm sure the hotel […] restaurant would have been nice had we made a reservation. The Jr. King Suite was wonderful. Great views. Perfectly located at Lincoln Center and Central Park. Blocks to East River. Great hospitality from staff. Had one issue, staff bent over backwards to make this our BEST stay in NYC. Love the rooftop patio and pool. Strongly recommend.

My friends and I decided to stay here for the rooftop pool and the location. The pool was a relief on such a hot day and the staff was fairly attentive. Would have been nice if there were more lounge chairs though. No wash clothes when went to take a shower. Called housekeeping and took about 15 min to receive. Later called for an ice bucket and glasses. […] Ice bucket took 20 min from Room Service. Had to call again for the glasses - that took another 30 minutes. Closing the curtains to sleep blocked the AC, which meant a hot night on top of the covers. What topped it all off - in a BAD WAY - was when we called for our car from valet the next morning around 10am. We were told it would take about 30 min for our car, which is fine enough as there is a Starbucks right next to the hotel. We finished our breakfast and waited in front of the hotel for our car. At this point, 40 min had past. I went to the front desk to check the status of the car, she called the garage, and then told me this was the first the garage heard about our car! Somehow, the front desk never called in our vehicle. She told me that the car would be here in 20 min and if not, our parking would be comped. I pushed back and fortunately enough, we were comped the the valet fee. Hildy (woman at the front desk) was very helpful in this horrible situation. Our room was not ready at the check-in time. After we did get in our room, another guest with the same last name entered our room after being given keys to our room! We were "upgraded" to a corner suite on the 11th floor without being told there was a DJ that night that would be directly over our room. Our room was shaking and very loud all night and […] we did not sleep. The sleeper sofa was broken so my kids slept on the floor on a 2 inch thick pad. There was 1 washcloth in the bathroom, and the bathroom door did not close all the way or have a fan in it. Water from the shower sprays all over the bathroom floor and they don't give you bath mats. I have to say,you were 45 minutes late checking us in and it would have been longer if we waited for the suite we booked.So not only did we not get our room but we were checked in late. we had our kids with us and so we had to walk around in the rain for an hour.we were however given four breakfast vouchers but the food was horrible. We also called […] down for extra towels and 1hour passed until we received them. upon check out we went up to our room to freshen up before we left and our keys would not work so we waited an additional 20 minutes to get our things and leave.I would not recommend this hotel because of the service.unfortunately the place its self is very lovely but the service was unsatisfactory. Overall the staff wasnt very accomodating. Check in was delayed almost 2 hours.....we went and ate and came back and every guest but us was offered free drinks in the bar...I had to go ask. Asked that they come get us in the bar when room was ready.....they gave room keys to people who checked in after us keys...again I had to go ask and then they gave […] us a key. First room we got was not what we expected so the next night they did switch us to a better room. AC doesnt work very well. The staff at the Rooftop bar left a lot to be desired as well although I understand they are separate. Paid for an "upgraded room" and low and behold the room was on the 3rd floor and I looked out to the roof of the lobby area. Even better, I saw three large HVAC units out my window and got to listen to them running all night long and did not have a complete night sleep. Probably was woken up 5-6 times by the noise.

Excellent! We were greeted at the front cordially, we were told of the perks, the room is lovely, roomy, clean, comfortable, and quiet. When we asked fora little refrigerator it was delivered within a half hour. The location is the best!

At first we thought the room small, but turned out to be perfectly adequate as we weren't in the hotel that much, but out and about. Bed was very comfortable and robes supplied - nice touch. Problem with the sink blocked on arrival, but fixed straight away. Staff and concierge more than helpful throughout.

Too many annoying details to give a better review. 1- Air conditioning made deafening noise. 2- Maid took bath mat and wash cloths, but didn't replace them; request to have them replaced resulted in new bath mat, but no wash cloths. 3- Bathroom had no counter and no hooks, just narrow and high shelves to place articles. 4- Intermittent odor of cigarette […] smoke in room (and we don't smoke). 5- Waited in line to go up to rooftop bar; not told that most of bar taken up with private party; no response when I mentioned that hotel guests should have been told beforehand. Nice funky little hotel in a GREAT spot right across the street from Lincoln Center. The room was small but lovely and had a retro feel to it that was fun. Definitely will stay there again. Also, the bar/lounge on the first level was a nice spot for an after-theatre drink.

We loved our stay at the Empire. The location is simply the best in NYC for the price. The staff was courteous, friendly, and the service was exceptional. We dealt with the check in staff, concierge, doormen, and facilities (to request more towels) and everyone was fantastic. The room was small, but this is to be expected in Manhattan! Our only gripe […] is that there is no door on the shower, so taking a shower made the entire (small) bathroom a bit of a wet mess. Otherwise, we loved our stay and can't wait to come back! They should have mentioned when I checked in that the room w/ a view would also result in extreme construction noise from the street. The construction noise (jackhammers, etc.) started in the early AM & woke me up. I never would have stayed in the room if I had known that.

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and enjoyed our stay. This time, a different story. We were shown our room, a regular queen size bed. Only two feet of space on three sides of the bed. Too small for a four night stay. We paid additional money per night extra for an upgraded king bed room. The young lady that checked us in was able to reduce the […] upgrade cost by fifty percent.
