I checked in and had to leave the fan runniing to get rid of the smell of something, not sure what. I then needed to run to a friend to help on a death. I did not use the bathroom that evening. I didn't really expect much from the hotel, but everything turned out alright. We arrived and checked in normally. First problem was that the safe was locked, but maintenance thankfully helped us quickly. Beds were decently comfortable, but the pillows were very small. The room is not the cleanest. There was an extra roll of toilet paper in the bathroom […] in which the wrapping was changing to yellow. Same with a sanitary bag. Very old looking. The shower was decent and warm. Check in and check out was quick and hassle free! It is close to several restaurants and not far from a mall and other stores. Furniture need a little updating and the towels were not stocked sufficiently in the room. The room however was clean and quiet!

This place was quiet and we had no hassles easy access to all the stores and food

I thought it was nice. Only there for one night. It was no 5 star resort but for the low price I would definately stay again.

For a low end motel this is a great value. The rooms are clean and well appointed and come with refrigerator, microwave, and mini-safe. The rooms with king beds even have a couch. The breakfast is very good for a continental breakfast. It even includes make-your-own waffles and fresh fruit.

The Howard Jones in Albany is certainly showing its' age. Our room was musty and though clean enough, somehow still felt grungy. A hotel in need of some tlc. Better to spend your money elsewhere.

Clean neat rooms at a great price! What else do you need?

I thought that the hotel would be okay for my business stay however it was not. As a young lady, I had to park my car in a dark area and walk a decent way to my room (no elevator) at night. We stayed there for Oktoberfest because the price was OK comparing to other hotels. The room was big and clean but this HJ is really old and needs to be renovated.

1> Uncleaned Towels/ bath Towels/ rugs 2> bad Odor in room 3> No Microwave in Breakfast room. 4> Staff is not helpful, i asked for lower level room, as my wife was pregnant, but she did not give us, though there were some empty rooms. there is no lift too...I will not recommend this hotel to anyone. HI!! My 2 nite stay was great. No problems with anything. I did ask if I could get a microwave and frig. and it was in the room by the time on arrived which was the same day I booked the room so that was pleasing to me. The room was a good size, comfortable, and clean. Free breakfast was good. Surrounding area was outstanding lots to do, right next to the highway, the mall, and gas stations. The Hotel was overall a good experience. the service was great. the rooms were comfortable and clean. however i ordered this room from hotels.com because i saw a commercial on tv that said if i order online i would recieve a free gift. that gift was supposed to be a kindell. no where on the website did it give me any information about the free gift […] for ordering online. an i did not recieve my free gift. I probably wont use hotels.com again because they did not give much of a discount and i never recieved the free kindell for useing the website. my discount was only $2 off the regular price. i feel that i could get a better deal from another site that doesnt promise things that they are not going to give. Location very easy to find off the NY State thru-way. We were visiting The Baseball Hall of Fame, and the drive was about 1 1/2 hours, very scenic. The hotel personnel were courteous, and the complimentary breakfast was very good (more than coffee and a box of donuts!!)

This has to be the worst hotel stay ever. Walked into the room, found old chip bags and a bottle on the floor. Room was not clean. Pull down the bed sheets, apear to be bed bugs, slept on the floor with 1 blanket. Still feel itchy a day later.....went to breakfast in another hotel room, had two sips of coffee and threw it out. My room at the Howard Johnson was large, and fine for a stay of a few days. It is fairly basic, but quite good for a cheaper hotel room. It in a convenient place for my needs, but is not really near the nicer area of Albany. The staff were reasonable, but not overly helpful. There is a breakfast room, equiped with the basics. Our hotel room was quite smelly. It smelled like smoke and it was a non-smoking room. The air conditioning was very loud and squeaky for the 1st 15-20 minutes! We did have clean beds and luckily we only had a few hours to sleep there before an early flight out of Albany airport. Great location for airport.

Close to the interstate 87, easy off and on, Close to down town Albany, with great availability to restauratnts and stores for needed materials. Wonderful, friendly staff, day and night, ready to accommodate your needs. Fabulous Thai Restaurant directly in front of the hotel. Many thanks! Mary E.

First off the room smelled stale. Secondly, the bathroom was dirty and there was still water in the tub. Along with that the tub had some spiders in it. I also asked if they had a workout room. The room was actually a converted hotel room in rundown condition. So was the so called equipment. Treadmill looked 10 years old as well as the elliptical if […] you could call it that. The last piece of equipment was a stationary bike which did not function at all. I wuold not call someone's home gym equipment that they picked up at a yard sale a workout room. When we first checked in we were given a non-smoking room that smelled horribly of smoke and that had a bed with no comforter and a ratty couch that would be found in an 18-yr-old male's college bachelor pad with his futon. We asked for a different room and got a much improved room with a table and desk, a mini fridge and a non-functioning microwave, […] so customer service was good. The pillowcases and sheets had old blood stains and other stains on them and there were hairs still in the bed and in the bathroom. The continental breakfast was typical hotel fare, and the gym/workout room is a hotel room that was converted into a workout space - it has a tv and three cardio machines in it. As soon as I walked in the air quality went down. It had a very stall smell and turning on the fan did not help. Was. Disappointed but that is what you get for saving a few bucks

Had workers looking in our room anytime the blinds were cracked. Checkout was 11am. Worker was knocking at 1030am for checkout. There was a moldy-mildew stench in my room and the fitness room was an old room with 3 pieces of outdated equipment. There was noise from 11pm to 5am almost every night from whom I believe were residents there. The chairs […] and tables outside my room just induced the hanging out and noise that ensued. I asked for a receipt and I was informed it was in my e-mail. As I returned home, there was no receipt in my e-mail. Continental breakfast which was marginally that ran out of pancake syrup 1 day. I stayed at the HoJo in Albany on a weekend night when it was surprisingly busy, as there are about 10 other hotels within walking distance that are probably cheaper and cleaner. After a 30 minute wait to check in, I finally got my room key and made my way to the second floor exterior room. The room might have been nice 30 years ago, but it is now the […] WORST room I have ever stayed in. The toilet bowl looked like it had mold growing in it. I was scared to take my shoes off. The comforter had tons of stains and even used bandaids stuck to it. The pillows and sheets were stained and scratchy and I was scared to leave my car in the parking lot. I wouldn't call the staff terrible, but they weren't all stars either. THe worst part was how much I paid. It was much too high a price for how much that gross room cost and I barely slept at all. Good location right of the expressway. Not that clean. Needs to be updated. Good place for a night.

I think the free breakfast in the morning made up for the cleanliness of the room. The rooms are clean just that you get what you paid for so it's not as nice as a big hotel but it was comfy and good location.

.Very bad smell in the room. People walk in frond of the room and talk out loud all night long and evening. You have to close the curtains during the day.Because of the foot traffic. An okay hotel at a great price near downtown. Not the Ritz, but I about half what I would have at a Marriott.

Everything was O.K. But the pool was the biggest disappointment. I thought it had pool but was under repair. It was not mentioned at the time of reservation.

My wife and I just wanted a place to relax away from everything for a night in Albany, NY and we decided to stay at the Howard Johnson. The service was great, the room was spacious and comfortable, and most important to me was the fact that the room was clean and comfortable. The only thing that I would suggest to the hotel is to start using liquid […] soap products instead of bar soap, and to place a bigger sign outside of the hotel so that people can actually find them. For the price, room and hotel overall were OK. Hotel and rooms need a makeover, though. Fitness Room is a converted guest room with a couple of treadmills. Rooms on back of property desolate.
