"Booked for my parents"
Location, location, location. This hotel is very convenient as it is walking distance to restaurants and the beach. It was perfect for my parents and very reasonably priced. They had dinner at 9/10 and loved it as well. The rooms were a bit outdated in terms of decor and musty but it was a good sized room.

A fine hotel that met all expectations and demands for family and friends. The hotel itself is wonderful, the restored Otis Elevator is beautiful, but the people they have are exceptional. All of them. The food, and the special attention given were exceptional.

We stayed in room 208 which was an odd configuration. First, we kept hearing noises because it was right around the corner from the front desk. The tv was in an odd spot making it difficult to view. The remote did not work. The young ladies at the front desk as well as the girls in the restaurant and the valets were all cordial and warm. We just felt […] that Jessica was not at her best. My family and I stayed at this hotel over Thanksgiving vacation. The location is perfect - right in La Jolla, steps away from the beach. You cant get more convenient. Service was excellent - its a pretty small hotel so the staff get to know you over your stay and are in general well trained and pleasant. Only complaint is that the hotel is feeling […] a bit old. Bathrooms arent particularly nice, closets are quite small. The rooms themselves are generous. But it all feels a touch old compared to the price you pay. Overall a positive experience though. Wonderful place to stay. Very convenient to shops and restaurants. The staff went above & beyond to help with suggestions of where to go & places to eat--always with a smile. The next time I visit, it will surely be for a longer period of time!

The hotel staff was consistently helpful and genuinely pleasant, not at all convtrived, and I really appreciated this. I feel comfortable recommending this hotel to all my friends.

Very nice accomodations. Stayed in Garden Suite with kitchen. Front desk and dining room staff are adequate but not helpful enough at this price point. Food and servers very good for breakfast. Restaurant week had dining room booked so we could not eat there for dinner. Surprised they could not accomodate us given that we were staying there.

Charming and a great location it's right in the middle of the village. The traffic noise was loud even with the windows closed. Unfortunately the air conditioner was louder than the street noise. All was quite during the week by 11:00pm but the village wakes up by 7:00am. The palm trees were pruned at 5:15am just outside our window. The hotel is really nice and well maintained. The only black mark is the air conditioning noise coming from the adjacent building which made it almost impossible to fully relax while inside the room.

This clean, comfortable hotel is a good value. Even though the valet parking was expensive, the convenience of the CG's location and the hotel's comfortable appointments and friendly (and ample) staff made for a great stay.

We had such a wonderful time at the Grand Colonial in La Jolla. Just a couple of blocks from everything , this hotel is in an ideal location. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were spacious and clean. Staying at this hotel really enhanced our trip. Would definitely stay a here again. We stayed in a Garden Suite with a kitchen. Room was beautifully done with everything necessary for a great stay. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Everything we could want was within walking distance with beautifuly views.

They are not open to help you in any personal difficulty, and that's not nice. I would like very much if this place, had a personal treatment and more professional, specifically in the front desk.

"Bring some Febreze and you'll be fine!"
It's an OLD hotel, so the rooms reflect what people were used to, back in the day. Don't expect anything spacious. A vague mildewy smell, probably due to proximity to the ocean. The hotel should invest in having the housekeeping crew use Febreze. Other than that, no complaints!

"Great location, nice hotel"
If you want to be in La Jolla, this is one of your best options. The rooms are very comfortable and the hotel has a nice classic feel to it. The pool is small but it seems fine for a hotel this size. You're right in the middle of town and valet service takes the parking challenge out of the equation for about $20/night.

I wanted a nice hotel close to the sea in La Jolla. The Grande Colonial fits this bill. It is very well located in the La Jolla village, one corner away from the sea, and it is indeed a very nice and beautiful hotel. It is a very luxurious hotel. Maybe this was not very appropriate to my way of travelling (what is the use of two closets in your room, […] including a walk-in closet, when you travel with only a cary-on luggage!) "Nice older property."
Overall our stay was satisfactory, however, the room was on the small side with very little room to sit anywhere but the bed. My husband is 6'4" and the shower head was too low for him (chest high) as was the very small toilet. It is boutique hotel.

This was my second stay at the Grande Colonial, and it's just incredibly charming, convenient and pleasant. Great restaurant and really attentive staff throughout the hotel. The only issue (and this is super nitpicky and not an actual problem) is the super slow elevator. The place isn't huge, but they only have one elevator, so you have to hang out […] a bit before it arrives. Otherwise, this is a practically perfect hotel. the hotel has some old world charm to it. but that means the rooms are a bit dated. One major issue is there was no dresser or anywhere to put non hanging clothes. this was a pain The bathroom was a bit cramped again with little space to put your things. "Grand Colonial Service was terrible"
I can not recommend this hotel. The valet scratched my car and the hotel would not take responsibility for it. Additionally, check-in was unbelievably slow. Hotel is pretty and well situated but if soemone does damage, they need to take responsibility. I am really shocked and disappointed they would not take responsibility

"Great hotel, great location"
Walk to the beach, walk to the village, walk to restaurants, and sleep well at night. The service and accommodations are outstanding.

The rate that I paid was worthy of a very good room, as things go for this site. It was middle of the road. My room had a dead cockroach and I was in a room that was advertised as a "valley view.". There is NO way to view the valley. You can only see the stores across the street and the windows that are not tinted, allow people to simply look up and […] right in. If you're looking for a feeling of historic California, this hotel is for you. Well located in La Jolla village, you won't need a car to get around. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Wireless internet very fast and wide range of cable TV channels Would definitely stay here again.

Every aspect of our stay was above and beyond. I do not give out high marks easily and even looked for reasons to lower them but found none. ALL the staff was great and the location can't be beat. Hotel has lots of character and would be great for couples.
