Admiral Semmes Hotel - Mobile

Very quiet and comfortable! Just right!

When I first arrived, it took 10 minutes for a clerk to see me. Apparently their keycard system was down and I was told to wait for my card. If I was a clerk at a hotel, I would have been more apologetic or graceful, but my clerk just matter-of-factly told me to wait, which I did, patiently. Needless to say, I never got a keycard. They expected me to […] have a clerk walk me to my room every time I left and came back. While my room was fair, it was smoking, when I had asked for a nonsmoking. Lucky for me I'm not asthmatic. The hotel didn't even have caffeinated coffee for their in-room coffee maker. These were only a few of many problems I had with my stay there. I was rudely answered when I asked for compensation for their mistakes and inadequacies and I was never once apologized to. A little grace would have went a long way. Good hotel for a great price. Perfect location, close to Dauphin Street. Nice atrium with piano playing when I arrived. Nice corner lounge in hotel. Big, spacious room. The only downside was the tacky pleather couch in the room. And the bathroom was kind of small and outdated. I would definitely recommend.

Wonderful old historic hotel in downtown Mobile. Perfect place to stay during Mardi Gras!! Staff is wonderful and so eager to please. Breakfast buffet was delicious!!

We went ahead and booked a two night stay for Mardi Gras again this year, even after the nightmare we had in 2011. Everything was great for 2012! Admiral Semmes Hotel is located in the middle of downtown Mobile and close to many restaurants and points of interest. The staff was helpful and courteous and we would stay there again.

Arrived at check-iin 3 pm....it was very crowded but very pleasant. We were offered a drink while we were waiting to check in the hotel. Room was very spacious and clean. The only thing was the ice maker did not work on several floors. Service was pretty lousy at the restaurant Friday night. It took almost an hour to be served. We went to Mobile for MARDI Gras. When we checked in we stood in line for an hour. There was only a couple of people in front of us. We paid for a king and ended up with a queen. We had three sets of keys that did not work. I complained to the manager, and was brushed off with how many people she checked in that day. We ended up eating dinner in the […] hotel restaurant. After waiting an hour for our food. The chef comes out and asks us "How was everything?". We explained we never got our food. He finally brought it out and we enjoyed the food, but then waited forever for our checks. Hotel is older, with a little bit of a weird layout; BUT the service was great and the updates to the room were nice. Very clean, easily accessible, reasonable parking, good ammenities, and very curtious staff. Not a bad place to stay! Will stay again if I go back to Mobile area.

We only stayed for one night but had absolutley no complaints. It is in a great location, the room was comfortable and clean and we got a great rate. The hotel staff was also great!

The only things this hotel is missing is a complimentary breakfast service (they make you pay at their restaurant). The other thing I wish the hotel had was a fitness center. Otherwise the hotel was nice. The staff was of good quality. The room was clean and comfortable while the location was excellent.

Bathroom small & outdated. TV old with fuzzy picture. Bed was very comfortable with cozy atmosphere. Great location & price.

This hotel is the worst hotel I've ever been in. It is a health hazard! The rooms are disgusting, moldy, bugs, the place needs to be demolished.

Hotel conveniently located downtown just off I-10 and near I-65. Front desk staff were outstanding: courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient. Live jazz could be enjoyed in the lounge if you could tolerate all the smoking patrons. The lobby and mezzanine decor is reminiscent of grand old hotels from the WWII era. Parking is provided in an adjacent public […] parking deck for a daily fee of $7. No valet parking provided as Hotels.com states. The room size is adequate but the bathrooms are small. Water pressure for the shower in my 7th floor room was great. Hotel management should upgrade the linens. Towels are thin and cheap. Bed sheets are 300tc. Good linens = good quality. The exhaust fan did not work in the bathroom. The sleep number bed had a problem with the air pump and would not adjust; it was on the firmest setting imaginable. I was ok with the tube television but the snowy cable service is unacceptable. Lights out in the emergency stairwells and the parking deck stairs were safety concerns noted during my stay. Found cookie crumbs under coffee table. Linen had not been changed for sofa bed. Staff did not provide daily linen service even when requested; had to get fresh towels from front desk staff. I was in Mobile for a Mardi Gras ball and this hotel was a great place to stay. It was a good value for how close it was to the Civic Center where the ball was held. The air conditioner in my first room went out and without any hassel or delay whatsoever they moved us right down the hall to another room. Knowledgable helpful staff; convenient location; free wireless internet. Loved staying there! (Only suggestion: Upgrade to flatscreen TVs in the rooms.)

The hotel was very friendly and helpful. I stayed here during the GoDaddy.com Bowl. The rooms were clean and very well maintained. I was very pleased with the location near downtown! Next time I'm in Mobile, I will stay here!

I was in Mobile to run the First Light Marathon. I booked my room at the Admiral Semmes because it was the host hotel. The hotel was convenient to everything - the start line, the finish line, the expo, and the fun parade the night before. Overall quite nice but the sleep number bed did not work

It's a bargain but uneven. The staff was friendly but gave conflicting information. "Sure downtown Mobile is safe to walk around at night." but the police say no. Directions--the restaurant is right around the corner but it's 8 blocks away. The room was great, but parking was across the street. The Kitchen was open at 8:00 thank heaven, but no restaurant?? Very nice huge room and heck of a price for the location. My favorite hotel in the city

This is a great location for a hotel but the rooms are just OK. They had a sleep number bed in my room and I was excited to try one out but it wasn't working. The room was one you would find in a red roof inn, no wow factory. Location is everything for this hotel and the price was reasonable for the location.

hotel is a little older, but clean. It location is good. Price was really good. parking next door in lot, cost 7.95 a day all day. Great for easy access.

I thought this hotel would be charming but clean. I have a two year old and i could not get her out of there fast enough, there was mold everywhere (not charming at all). My husband and mother ate at the restaurant in the morning and both were sick all the next day. I do not suggest this hotel to anyone. The woman at the front desk also told me since […] i booked my room on "one of those sites" i was getting a smoking room but that she would do me the favor of changing the room for me (gee, Thanks) . The only mirror in thew room was in the very tiny bathroom. The tv was placed so that it could not be viewed from the bed. Even the bell staff had to look for the closet, it was hidden behind the room door. An average room at best and such a dissappointment after the wonderful room I had at this hotel during my last stay!

I've never written one of these before, but I really had to warn people about this Hotel. Out first night was OK... not great... OK... in the morning we noticed that the tub did not drain and that the shower curtain and the shower walls had mold all over them... So when we left for our business meetings the next day we discussed our concerns with […] the Desk Staff. They said that they would take care of it... not. When we finally got back from a long day of meetings, about 9 PM... we got to our room, it looked horrible. It looked like the work men left half way after completing a bathroom renovation. There were dirty towels all over the floor, as well as soiled tissue paper, It looked disgusting. We called the desk and they came up to take a look... the on duty supervisor was shocked and offer to move us to another room, an upgrade... OK, that was the right thing to do... They moved us to another room, as about 10pm... OK' we are settled right... Wrong... the new room was filthy dirty... when we opened the bed, we found all kinds of "Stuff" on the sheets, stains and hairs of all types. We opened a Clean Towel and found more hairs... a "Fresh" folded towel, covered with hair on the inside. We called down to the desk again, they came up with fresh lines and towels... they changed out everything. We tried to stay one more night... and it was more of the same. Finally, on our last night, we went to the Hilton Garden Inn, about 10 minutes out of town... yes it was a standard hotel, but it was spotless. Mobile was a disappointment, mostly due to the Admiral. This Hotel was billed as 4.5 stars. That is deceptive as it was old had mold in the rooms and no staff to speak of. The Staff was not as courteous as I am used to either. I don’t think the place had been renovated in decades. The furnishing were cheap and rickety. I was very displeased. Had I not pre-paid, I would have gone elsewhere. There was not […] even a valet. I guess you get what you pay for I would give the hotel as I experienced it a 2 star rating at best. I will need way more information before I trust what is told to me sight unseen. Let's just say the walls are VERY thin and if anyone is talking in the room next to you (or doing anything else) then you can here EVERYTHING.

short walk to Dauphine St & convention center; good food, reasonable parking rate, staffing was tight but everyone was VERY hospitable and friendly, helpful. Good buy for the money
