"In town for Athens Twilight Crit -- not a bad stay"
We were just in town for a two-night stay, with one child, aged 12. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast consisted of danishes, instant oatmeal, white bagels, mini muffins, OJ, apple juice, tea, milk, coffee, microwave sausage muffins (I liked these!), cereal and waffles. Wasn't too bad or too good. The place was well-maintained, just […] needs a bit of a face lift. No complaints on cleanliness-- our room was two queen beds and small, but clean (however, the box spring had stains...), the beds were tolerable, no issues in the bathroom, clean towels and plenty of them. The rooms also have a sliding glass door to the outside. No fancy seats or outdoor funiture, but you could pull a chair out of the room and enjoy it. There are cameras everywhere, so no funny business! The neighborhood surrounding the hotel was just fine, and we went to the Mexican restaurant next door and it was good too, and not pricey. My sister dropped off her small dogs, without telling us, and the hotel (of course found out) charged us $30 for the two, even though there are NO pets allowed. We visited the pool and it was very clean -- no trash, and the water was crystal clear. It's no Hilton, but it was decent for our purposes. Would I stay here again? Sure. "Close to scheduled events in our stay."
The HoJo's was an unexpected pleasure. Kind of a diamond in the ruff if I can use the cliche'. The nonsmoking building was nicely remodeled and the important accomodationsi.e.: mattress quality, updated baths etc. were an added touch for an older facility. Management was on top of things when a group of sport teams arrived and it became a little noisy. […] They advised them that other guests were at the hotel and they should be respectful of that. And so they were. Thanks Mgt you did the right thing.Continental brkfst was very good and had plenty to choose from. Close enough to Downtown Athens and the Road Atlanta course in Braselton. "Howard Johnson Athens Never Again"
I stayed at the Howard Johnson in Athens this past weekend. It was a horrible experience. Check in time was 3pm but I arrived at 2pm after driving straight from a 12 hr night shift. I thought maybe they would let me check-in early. They said that was not a possibility because none of the rooms were clean. I tried checking in at the normal 3 pm check-in […] time and the room still wasn't clean. I had to wait until 4:30 pm to check-in. The room was not very nice and I am not sure how clean it actually was. The employees seemed to have excuses for everything. I will definitely choose a different place next time. Przeczytaj więcej
"Terrible Experience... Had to leave immediately"
Roaches, damage that looked like mouse holes, and an unbearably strong tobacco smell. Despite having requested a non-smoking suite, the staff placed us in a smoking room without our informing us at check-in. A refund was not made available, and the staff was not helpful. I would never recommend staying here.

I stayed at this hotel several times during 2011-12. I went on April 8, 2012. At this time they did something they had not done in the past- they asked for an imprint of my credit card- for incidentals. I understand why since I paid by 3rd party. At checkout however, the clerk refused to give me my imprint or to shred it while I watched. I was shocked! […] We didn't have any other charges and I couldn't believe that she refused to give me the info back. She called the manager who got very condescending with me! I asked why they needed it since we didn't have and other charges and he got nasty- I finally said fine I will cancel the card so you can't charge on it anyway. "Cheap and Clean!"
We were looking for a nice, clean hotel to break up a 2-day drive and were very satisfied with this Howard Johnson. The staff was nice and the room was comfortable. Would definitely consider stopping here again if we were in the area.

"Good Deal for the Money"
The neighborhood appeared safe, the desk attendant very helpful, and location was convenient to everything. The mattress and pillows were not very good if you have trouble in that area. The carpet though not sticky, was so dark that it made me wary and I wore socks until I got in bed. Towels were like sandpaper. The bathroom vent was thick with dust […] and there were dirty handprints on the door frame. It was clean and organized other than that. It was the best deal going at the time, so I was satisfied. "Cozy but outdated..."
The receptionists were very nice both checking in and out. The room was comfortable. The only criticism was that I feel that the appliances might have been as old as I am in the room, but all worked well, so no terribly negative complaints.

"Not too bad for the money"
Room not very big looked a lot bigger in the pictures. Air conditioner was 4" from the head of the big so it was right in your face. When you turned it down the room was hot and muggy. With it running stale air was blowing in your face. The check-in and check-out staff were very nice. Ice machine ran out of ice on Sunday morning.

1.The room where I stayed in the draws were broken and hanging out. 2. the curtains were in need of repair or just new ones. 3. The scream door to the patio was trown apart in several places. But it was clean and neat. The people were great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"HoJo in Athens - Very comfy and well priced"
This is definitely going to be my hotel of choice every time that I go down to Athens, GA. Yeah, she's "retro" and doesn't cater to silver spoon expectations but you know what... the room was very clean well kept. Whenever they advertise "No Smoking" they mean it! :) The rooms had no trace of smoke in them and management even kicked out a patron who […] was smoking outside of his room. "Not what I thought it would be"
The hotel staff was very friendly; however, the bedsheets had holes & tears (we were in a non-smoking room.) The room had a faint smell of urine when the AC was turned on. Everything could be heard through the walls including my neighbor's intimate activities. Very disappointed with the room and would not opt to stay here in the future.

The hotel is perfectly adequate for a night or two stop-over. On the main road into Athens town centre, with lots of eating places and facilities around. Pleasant staff (really only one person on reception), but don't ask any difficult questions after hours (like how does the safe work) because they won't know. Also, if you want something like extra […] pillows, there's no-one to help. But if you're looking for a clean place to stay, convenient to Athens, then this is fine, especially given the cheap price. "Howard Johnson in Athens, GA- basically a dump"
This hotel might be okay for a poor college student desperate for a place to stay, but otherwise I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was very old, not well maintained, and the hallways reaked of cigarette smoke. Luckily we reserved a nonsmoking room, so our room didn't smell terrible, but the hallway right outside did. The room was very dark. […] The bathroom mirror and bathtub desperately needed replacing- there were worn black spots all over both. The bath towels were terribly small, rough, and worn out as well. The bed was not comfortable. The hotel was fairly clean, it just needed a lot of updating. It is somewhat centrally located, but the surrounding neighborhood has nothing to offer. Luckily we had a rental car and as soon as we woke up each morning we left the area. The continental breakfast was okay- just a few bagels, milk cartons, and mini boxes of cereal. The coffee was awful. One nice amenity was free wi-fi and a computer for guest use in the lobby. I would recommend finding somewhere else to stay in Athens. "Howard Johnson in Athens GA"
This hotel hasn't been updated/remodeled since I was in school in early 1980's. To sum it up, its a freaking dump!! The mattress were god awful!! The only reason we stayed here was because it was only non-smoking room available in the city. Next time, I will definately try to book a room further in advance at a better hotel!

In town for a UGA home football game. Dismayed with the exorbitant markup on game weekends, but I guess the market is willing to pay. The hotel is several miles down W. Broad St. from downtown, so be aware you'll have to drive and park. The room was comfortable, but the upkeep of the hotel was negligent. The glass doors to the patio from the room would […] not shut all the way. The ceiling above the air conditioner was black with mildew. The microwave and mini-fridge were old and rusty. This hotel is your typical hotel room appearance-wise, and the mini-fridge, coffee maker and microwave is a nice touch to the room. The walk-out patio is nice, and the pool is in the center of the courtyard which is convenient and pleasant. I felt pretty secure in this hotel as you need a room key to even enter the hallway to the rooms. Hotel desk was […] friendly, and when there was a clog in the bathtub, they sent someone out right away. There is no free wifi or laundry facility as advertised, but the TV has cable and Nintendo games for the kids to play. This hotel also offers free breakfast in the morning which is convenient. The area is in East Athens, but is conveniently located close to drug stores, grocery stores. restaurants and not too far from Downtown. "GAME DAY"
The room was in shambles and very small. I was impressed with the location being so close to the stadium, but the room itself was very poor. There were several things broken in the room icluding the door knob on the interior of the door to the room and also both lamp shades. The bed was not comfortable in the least and you could hear even the smallest […] thing in the rooms beside you (like someone using the restroom). The price at the time was ok considering location but should have been about half the price due to the quality of the rest of the stay. I was in a smoking section instead of the non i reserved. The phone did not work nor did the tv remote. The Bulldogs won and that was good.

I was in Athens, GA, for a conference at the University. The hotel is close to fast food eateries and a straight shot to the University. The staff was friendly and helpful.

"needs improvement"
It was the only place left in town to stay on gameday weekends so we really had not choice. bathroom lights did not work and springs in bed kept popping throughout the night.

Our stay was for 4 days and the service was great ...pool was clean and hotel complex was rather quite ....rooms are clean and just what you need for a stay away from home ...price was very reasonable and allowed me to book for longer stay ...
